Volleyball Falls to Pitt-Johnstown

Johnstown, Pa. – The Edinboro women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to host Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon in PSAC West play.
 
In the opening set, UPJ jumped out to a 9-5 lead. A kill from Makayla Neelands and a service ace from Molly Strayer pulled the Scots within 9-7. Natalie Lippincott pushed the Mountain Cat lead to 12-9 with a kill. Elles van Kollenburg scored a kill and a UPJ error trimmed the advantage to 12-11. The Mountain Cats opened the lead back to 20-14 with an 8-3 spurt capped by a kill from Mallory Pinske. UPJ went on to win the set 25-16.
 
In the second, UPJ opened with a 4-1 lead on a service ace from Ellie Zuro Cirino. Reilly Parent notched a kill and a Mountain Cats committed a hitting error to cut the lead to 4-3. UPJ scored the next seven points to push the lead to 11-3. The Mountain Cat lead grew to 22-12 before the Scots tallied four straight points to trim the lead to 22-16. UPJ scored the next two to extend the lead to 24-16. Neelands notched a kill sandwiched between two UPJ errors to cut the lead to 24-19, but Knight recorded a kill to give the Mountain Cats a 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead.
 
UPJ was out of the gate fast in the third taking a 9-5 lead early. Maggie Koster kicking off a 5-1 spurt to pull Edinboro within 11-10. The lead hovered at one, 15-14 before back-to-back points for UPJ pushed the lead to 17-14. Kills from Faith Schneider and Neelands were part of a 3-1 spurt that cut the lead to 18-17. The Mountain Cats closed out the set on a 7-3 run to take the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
 
Neelands paced the Edinboro offense with 10 kills to go with 11 digs. Parent chipped in nine kills and six digs. Grace Petro and Laney Burns each tallied 14 assists and five digs.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they travel to California (Pa.) for a 6 p.m. contest with the Vulcans.
