California, Pa. – The Edinboro women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to host California (Pa.) Friday night.
The Vulcans grabbed control of the first set right out of the gate jumping to a 13-2 lead after a Caroline Mercer service ace. Cal would take the first set 25-11.
In the second, Cal jumped out early again taking an 11-4 lead after an Edinboro error. The Scots closed the gap to 17-12 after a
Makayla Neelands kill, but the Vulcans answered with a 7-1 run to pull ahead 24-13. A
Maggie Koster kill and a Cal error closed the gap to 24-15, but Olivia Weiseman recorded a kill to give the Vulcans the set 25-15.
The Scots fell behind 7-1 in the third, but rallied back to within 8-7 on a
Reilly Parent kill. The Cal lead stretched to 14-11 before the Scots went on an 8-1 run to grab a 19-15 lead. The Vulcans got as close as 22-20, but three straight for the Scots gave Edinboro a 25-20 set victory.
Edinboro took the first two points of the fourth set, but Cal responded with a 13-6 run to pull ahead 13-8. Koster tallied a kill to pull the Scots within 20-17, but that was as close as Edinboro would get dropping the fourth 25-18.
Neelands and Parent each tallied 13 kills to lead the offense.
Grace Petro tallied 23 assists while
Laney Burns chipped in 19 helpers. Neelands and
Klaresajane Sivas each tallied 20 digs.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they take on Seton Hill at 1 p.m.
