Volleyball Falls to IUP

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team fell to visiting IUP 3-0 inside McComb Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
 
In the opening set, IUP got out to a 5-1 lead after a Charlotte Potvin kill. The Scots answered with a 3-1 spurt featuring kills from Maggie Koster and Makayla Neelands to trim the lead to 6-4. The Crimson Hawks responded with a 6-2 run taking a 12-6 lead after a pair of Edinboro errors. Trailing 19-13, a pair of Neeland kills and two IUP errors pulled the Scots within 19-17. The Crimson Hawks closed out the set with a 6-2 run to take a 25-19 set win.
 
The Scots grabbed a 7-5 lead on a Makayla Neelands kill in the second set. IUP scored the next two points to level the game 7-7. An IUP error and a Reilly Parent kill gave Edinboro a 9-7 lead. The Crimson Hawks went on a 10-1 run to pull ahead 17-10. Edinboro scored the next three points to cut the advantage to 17-13. IUP responded with a 5-2 spurt to extend the advantage to 22-15. The Scots got it back withing 23-18 after a Faith Schneider kill, but IUP tallied the nest two points to win the set 25-18.
 
In the third set, IUP jumped out to a 20-6 lead. Schneider notched a kill sparking eight straight points to cut the lead to 20-14. A Potkin kill and a Kessler service ace extended the lead to 22-14. The Scots score the next four points to cut the lead to 22-18 after kills from Schneider and Parent.  The Crimson Hawks held off the late Edinboro push to win the set 25-20.
 
Neelands led the offense with 11 kills and a team-high 10 digs. Parent added seven kills. Laney Burns tallied 13 assists and Grace Petro chipped in11 helpers.
 
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they travel to Slippery Rock. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
