Big Nights from Carmichael and Baez Lead Men’s Basketball to Win Over Point Park

Edinboro, Pa. – Freshman guard Rowan Carmichael came off the bench and poured in 31 points including seven 3-pointers as the Edinboro men's basketball team defeated visiting Points Park 86-74 Wednesday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The Scots trailed 9-1 early after Grant Welch hit a 3-pointer for the Pioneers with 17:14 left in the first. Bryce Baez connected on a triple and Evan Berger hit a layup to cut the lead to 11-6. Aiden Anderson hit a trey for Point Park and Carmichael answered with a triple of hist own at the 15:31 mark.  A Dakari Bradford free throw and Baez layup cut the Pioneer lead to 14-12 with 14:31 left in the first half. Brenden Williams hit a layup to push the lead to 16-12 but four free throws from Baez leveled the score at 16 with 13:27 on the clock.
 
The Pioneers went on an 11-5 run to take a 27-21 lead after a Williams free throw at the 10:31 mark. Carmichael hit 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions sparking a 16-4 run to put the Scots ahead 43-31 at the 5:18 mark. The Pioneers would close the gap to 47-40 with a 9-4 spurt of their own to close the half.
 
Baez went to work in the second half scoring the first nine points of the second frame capped by an and-one at the 16:59 mark to extend the Edinboro lead to 56-40. Point Park scored the next nine points to trim the lead to 56-49 with 13:33 on the clock, but another Baez layup along with a layup from Bradford and a triple from Berger put the Scots ahead 63-51 with 11:38 to play.
 
The Scot lead would grow to 20, 75-55, after a Carmichael found Baez for a layup with 8:49 left in the contest. The Edinboro lead would not fall below double digits the rest of the way securing the 86-74 win.
 
In addition to his 31 points, Carmichael added three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Baez dropped a double-double of 27 points and 13 boards to go with a pair of helpers. Berger added 10 points, four rebounds and four dimes.
 
Kaden Warner led the Pioneers with 26 points and nine rebounds. Greg Williams chipped in 12 points while Anderson finished with 11.
 
The Scots are back in McComb Fieldhouse on Saturday when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
