Buffalo, N.Y. – Four Fighting Scots reached double figures as the Edinboro women's basketball team scored a 65-50 victory over host D'Youville Wednesday night in non-conference action.
In the fourth quarter, Ava Pearson hit a 3-pointer to cut the Edinboro lead to 46-42 with 9:05 on the clock.
Kassie Potts hit a 3-pointer and
Ava Haddad scored a two to puth the lead back out to 51-42. The Saints connected on a trey to close the gap to six, before Potts hit another triple to make it 54-45 at the 6:31 mark.
The Saints scored the next five points all from Molly O'Toole to trim the lead to 54-50 with 4:24 to play. The Edinboro defense kept D'Youville off the board over the final 4:24 with an 11-0 run to set the final and secure the victory.
After O'Toole opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, the Scots scored the next seven points to grab an early 7-3 advantage. The Saints answered with a 10-5 spurt to take a 13-12 lead on another O'Toole three. The teams traded buckets with
Maura Suman hitting jumper with 18 seconds left in the first to give the Scots a 16-15 advantage after one.
D'Youville took the lead early in the second on a Xanthippi Karatasiou 3-pointer but
Hope Garrity hit a trey of her own sparking an 8-0 run to give Edinboro a 24-18 advantage with 6:59 left in the second. The Saints went on a 10-3 run capped by a Morgan Giancaterino layup to take a 28-27 lead with 2:46 remaining. The Scots scored the final five points of the half to take a 32-28 lead into the locker room.
Out of the break, Edinboro started fast with a 10-2 run to take a 42-30 lead after a Haddad layup with 5:42 on the clock in the third. D'Youville chipped away at the lead with 9-2 spurt cutting the Scot lead to 44-39 with 38 second left in the third. Haddad hit a jumper with 7 seconds showing to make it 46-39 Scots after three.
Potts netted a career-high 13 points to go with six rebounds and two assists. Haddad also notched 13 points as well as five boards and a pair of helpers.
Taylor Blunt added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Samantha Baker was the fourth Scot to score in double figures with 10 points well also recording four steals and four rebounds.
O'Toole led the Saints with 15 points and nine rebounds. Giancaterino added 11 points.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Findlay for a 3 p.m. tipoff against the Oilers.
