Youngstown, Ohio – The Edinboro swim teams got off to a strong start on the first day of the Youngstown State Invitational on Thursday.
The women's 200-freestyle relay team of
Katelyn Reott,
Alexis Schrecongost,
Lillian Dilts and
Izzy Hanek started the finals off with a bang setting the YSU pool record with a time of 1:35.04.
The Scots put three swimmers in the B-final with Cara Della Toffalo earning ninth in 5:24.44,
Peyton Koballa touched the wall in 5:30.38 good for 10
th and
Naomi Polito was 11
th in 5:31.96. In the 200-IM
Uxue Navarro placed sixth with a swim of 2:12.18.
Reott set another YSU pool record in the 50-freestyle touching the wall in 23.25 an NCAA B-cut and the second-best time in Fighting Scot history. Hanek was fourth in the 50-free with a time of 23.94, Dilts added a 24.49 to take sixth and Schrecongost was eighth in 25.17.
The Scots finished the night in the 400-medley relay with Reott, Schrecongost, Navarro and Hanek taking second with a time of 3:55.06.
The men's top 200-freestyle relay of Andrew Kettler,
Elijah Innis,
Cade Tysinger and
Braden Hain finished fourth with a swim of 1:25.73.
Rafael DeSousa turned in the second-best 500-yard freestyle in Edinboro history with a time of 4:47.99 good for seventh.
Caleb Ludlow and
Christian Connell each made the A-final in the 200-IM. Ludlow finished in 1:56.62 to place sixth and Connell was eighth in 2:00.43.
Braden Hain tied for fourth in the men's 50-freestyle with a swim of 21.25. Hain, Ludlow, Kettler and DeSousa rounded out the first day of action with a fifth-place finish in the 400-medley with a time of 3:27.94.
The Scots return to action on Friday with the second day of the Youngstown State Invitational. Swimming begins at 9 a.m.
