Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team notched an 86-56 victory over visiting Thiel Sunday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Tomcats got off to a fast start taking a 17-11 lead at the 14:26 mark after a Mike Brown jumper. Edinboro scored the next six points with two points each from
Amaan Sandhu,
Rowan Carmichael and Makhi Reynolds to knot the score 17-17. Kham Accursio Harris gave Thiel a 19-17 lead, before the Scots went on an 8-0 run including six points from
Evan Berger to take a 26-19 lead with 9:43 left in the first half.
At the 5:18 mark, Thiel trimmed the lead to 33-30 on a pair of Anthony Henderson free throws. Edinboro answered with the next eight points with four each coming from Reynolds and Berger to build a 41-30 lead. Brown split a pair of free throws to make it 41-31 with 1:01 left in the first half. Berger finished an and-one with 44 seconds left to send the Scots to the locker room up 44-31.
The second half started with four straight points for the Tomcats cutting the advantage to 44-35. Edinboro answered with an 11-0 run capped by a Carmichael triple at the 15:31 mark to extend the lead to 55-35.
Thiel scored a layup on the next possession to cut the lead to 55-37, and that was as close as the Tomcats would get as the Scots pulled away down the stretch.
Berger led four Scots in double figures with 29 points to go with three rebounds, two steals and two assists. Carmichael added 17 points, four helpers and two steals. Sandhu tallied 13 points and four boards. Reynolds notched 11 points and team-high seven rebounds.
Accurio-Harris paced the Tomcats with 12 points and five rebounds. Brown and Henderson each notched eight points.
The Scots return to action on Saturday with a trip to Lock Haven in the first PSAC crossover matchup of the season. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
