Shepherdstown, W.Va. – The Edinboro women's basketball team scored an 86-63 victory over host Shepherd Saturday afternoon in PSAC crossover action.
Shepherd got out to a 5-2 lead on a Trinity Turner layup early in the first quarter.
Taylor Blunt hit a 3-pointers and buckets from
Ava Haddad and
Rachael Manfredo put Edinboro ahead 9-5 at the 6:19 mark. The Rams cut the lead to 9-7 with a layup and the Scots responded with a 14-3 run pushing the lead to 23-10 on a pair of
Carla Brown free throws with 21 seconds left in the opening quarter. Kara Wehner hit a pair of shots from the line for Shepherd to cut the lead to 23-12 after the first.
The teams traded buckets early in the second with the Rams cutting the lead to 33-20 at the 6:35 mark with a layup. The lead grew to 41-24 on
Jess Hetz layup with 2:57 left in the second quarter. Samihyah Nasir cut the lead to 41-26 with a layup at 2:10 before Edinboro closed the half with seven straight points to take a 48-26 lead into the locker room.
The Scots pushed the lead to 61-28 coming out of the break with a 13-2 run capped by a
Hope Garrity 3-pointer at the 5:47 mark of the third. The Rams closed the quarter with a 14-6 run to cut the lead to 67-42 heading to the fourth.
Edinboro closed out the game in the fourth with the lead never sinking below 21 the in the final frame.
The Scots were highly efficient from the field shooting 62.5 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from beyond the arc.
Garrity paced the offense going for 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Manfredo just missed a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Blunt also reached double figure scoring with 11 points.
Estridge led the Rams with 27 points to go with five rebounds and three steals.
The Scots return to action on Sunday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. tipoff against the Raiders.
