Women’s Basketball Scores PSAC West Win Over Slippery Rock

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team had four players reach double figure scoring to claim a 65-44 victory over visiting Slippery Rock Wednesday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
Leading by eight, 43-35, heading to the fourth quarter, the Scots wasted no time putting distance between themselves and the Rock using a 12-2 run to open the final frame to go up 55-37 on an Ashten Boggs layup with 6:29 to play.
 
Mairan Haggerty hit a triple for Slippery Rock, before Hayley Sims and Boggs tallied back-to-back layups sparking 10-2 run capped by a Gabby McDuffie bucket to extend the Scot lead to 65-42 with 1:09 to play. Hallie Raabe hit a pair of free throws for the Rock with 55 seconds to play to set the final.
 
Morgan Gentile entered the game needing just one point to reach 1,000 for her career at Edinboro. She scored it on free throw, the first point of the game, at the 8:29 mark of the first. Slippery Rock grabbed their only lead of the game on a bucket from Kayle Joseph-Bernard with 7:17 remaining in the opening frame. A McDuffie triple put the Scots back up and started a 12-2 run to make it 13-4 on a Gentile layup with 2:05 on the clock. Edinboro would take a 15-7 lead into the second quarter.
 
The Scot offense was rolling in the second quarter. Ava Haddad opened the period with an and-one and a Boggs layup pushed the Edinboro lead to 20-7 at the 9:07 mark.
 
Edinboro held a 38-18 lead at the break. The Rock played a strong third quarter outscoring Edinboro 17-4 to cut the lead to 43-35 heading to the final frame. Slippery Rock scored four straight points to trim the lead to 20-11 with 7:33 left in the quarter, but two Haddad layups and a bucket from Natalie Angeletti extended the advantage to 26-11.
 
Brooklyn Jones cut into the lead with a trey at the 5:11 mark to make it 26-14, but Edinboro closed the half on a 13-4 run to take a 39-18 lead into the locker room.
 
Slippery Rock played a strong third quarter outscoring the Scots 17-4 to pull within 43-35 heading into the final frame.
 
Haddad lead the Scots in scoring with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go with four rebounds and three assists. McDuffie tallied 12 points, six boards, four steals and two helpers. Gentile added 10 points, six rebounds, six helpers and five steals. Boggs tallied 10 points, three boards, four assists and two steals.
 
For the Rock, Gillin, Haggerty, Jones and Joseph-Bernard each tallied 10 points.
 
With the win and other results around the league, the Scots have secured a bye in next week's PSAC postseason tournament. Whether the Edinboro will be the one or two seed is to be determined. The Scots wrap up regular season play on Saturday with a trip to California (Pa.). Tip off is slated for 1 p.m.
