Women’s Lacrosse Picks up a Win Against Lake Erie

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team scored a 16-14 win against visiting Lake Erie Wednesday afternoon inside Sox Harrison Stadium.

The Lake Erie Storm opened the scoring early with a goal from Madelyn Goodrich at the 13:47 mark. Marissa Birchard, with an assist from Jacqui Detelich answered for the Fighting Scots 46 seconds later. With 11:59 left in the quarter, Detelich scored two unassisted goals, making it 3-1. After a goal from the Storm's Friesen Reese, Detelich scored two more unassisted goals in two minutes. Lake Erie rallied back with three unanswered goals, before Rylee Jones ended the first quarter with an unassisted goal, bringing the score to 6-5.

The Storm opened up the second quarter by tying the game, before Jones brought back the lead to Edinboro. With 06:24 left in the quarter Madelyn Goodrich advanced Lake Erie back to a tie, but with a minute left in the quarter Jones answered with her third goal of the match, making the score 8-7 as the teams headed into the locker rooms.

30 seconds into the third quarter Detelich scored her fifth goal of the game, but by the middle of the quarter The Storm leveled out the score with two unanswered goals. With 05:59 on the clock, Birchard scored her second goal of the match, with an assist from Detelich. Lake Erie fought back and tied the game with a goal from Rachel Rose, her second of the day. The Fighting Scots went on a run with back-to-back goals, Detelich scored a woman-up goal with 2:23 left on the clock, and Jones followed shortly after, bringing the score to 12-10 with 1:25 left in the third quarter. Lake Erie pushed the score to 12-11, but with 10 seconds left in the quarter, Jones scored an unassisted goal.

Detelich opened up the fourth quarter with woman-down goal from Jones, bringing her to seven goals of the match. Lake Erie attempted to level the game back up with two back-to-back goals, but Angelina Anderson answered with two of her own; a woman-down goal from Jones, and a goal from Kenna Sinisgalli with 3:11 left in the game. The Storm scored the last goal of the match, making the final score 16-14.

Detelich lead the offense with nine points on seven goals, and two assists. Breaking her career high in goals and points, as well as earning a spot in the Edinboro record book of second to most points scored in a single game, in school history. Jones tallied eleven draw controls, seven points, five goals, and two assists. Birchard and Anderson earned two goals each, and Addy Ours made 7 saves between the pipes to pick up the win.

The Scots return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lock Haven University for a 12 p.m. contest.
