Women’s Volleyball Drops Five-Setter to Bloomsburg

Lock Haven, Pa. – The Edinboro women's volleyball team wrapped up the Bald Eagle Classic on Saturday with a 3-2 loss to Bloomsburg.
 
In the opening set, the Huskies jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a Jessica Rimbo service ace. An Emma Hiott kill and three Bloomsburg errors trimmed the lead to 7-6. The Huskies went on a 4-1 run to push the advantage back to 11-8. Edinboro took the lead back with six straight points led by a pair of service aces from Laney Burns. The Huskies answered with three straight points to tie the score at 14-14. Mikayla Neelands tallied a kill and a service ace to put the Scots up 17-14. Edinboro pushed the lead to 23-19 on a Reilly Parent kill. Bloomsburg rattled off five straight points to grab a 24-23 lead. Neelands scored a kill to tie the score, but kills from Marlee Johnson and Emily Gustie gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
 
In the second set, the Scots trailed 14-11. Kills by Parent and Neelands keyed a 3-1 spurt that cut the lead to 15-14. Back-to-back points for the Huskies made it 17-14 before two Bloomsburg errors and a Burns service ace knotted the score at 17. The Huskies pulled ahead 19-17, but the Scots scored eight straight points with three service aces from Neelands and three kills by Parent to earn the 25-19 lead.
 
The Scots jumped out 9-5 to begin the third set. Bloomsburg answered with four straight points to tie the score 9-9. A Neelands kill pushed Edinboro back in front 10-9 before three straight points from the Huskies made it 12-10. The Scots went on a 6-1 run to grab a 16-13 lead on a Parent kill. The teams traded points with Edinboro claiming a 25-21 win in the set.
 
In the fourth, Bloomsburg jumped out early to an 11-4 lead. The Scots clawed their way back trimming the lead to 21-20 on kills from Parent and Grace Petro. The Huskies scored the final four points of the frame to send the match to a decisive fifth set 25-20.
 
In the final set, Edinboro led 8-4 at the switch. A Bloomsburg error made it 9-4 Scots. The Huskies answered with a 5-2 run to trim the lead to 11-9. Neelands extended the lead with a kill, but Bloomsburg scored six straight taking the set 15-12 and the match.
 
Parent led the offense with 21 kills. Neelands added 16 kills, 25 digs and six service aces. Burns finished with 22 assists and four aces while Petro chipped in 21 helpers and11 digs. Emma Hiott and Maggie Koster each tallied four block assists.
 
The Scots make their home debut on Saturday when they host Shepherd at 5 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
