Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team fell 3-0 to host Gannon Sunday afternoon in PSAC West action inside the Highmark Events Center.
In the first set, Gannon jumped out to a 7-1 lead after a Carlee Webber kill.
Reilly Parent ended the Gannon run with a kill, but the Golden Knights answered with three straight points to push the lead to 10-2. Edinboro used a 4-2 spurt to trim the lead to 12-6 after a
Maggie Koster kill. The Scots would get as close as 15-10 after a
Laney Burns service ace. The Golden Knight lead grew to 18-11 and Parent tallied a kill to cut the lead to 18-12. The Golden Knights scored six straight points and won the opening frame 25-14.
With the score tied 5-5 in the second set, Gannon scored three straight points to go up 8-5. A Gannon error and
Makayla Neelands kill cut the lead to 8-7. The Golden Knights used an 8-4 run to grab a 16-11 lead. Koster notched a kill to make it 16-12. Gannon went on a 7-2 run pulling ahead 23-14. Neelands picked up a kill and a service ace and a Golden Knight error cut the lead to 23-17. Two Scot errors gave Gannon the set two win 25-17.
In the third set, Gannon got out to a 9-4 lead. A Neelands kill and a
Molly Stayer service ace sandwiching a pair of Golden Knight errors trimmed the lead to 9-8. The teams traded points back-and-forth with Gannon holding an 11-9 lead. A Gannon service error and a pair of Neelands aces put the Scots ahead 12-11. The Golden Knight went on a 6-2 run to grab an 18-14 lead after and Edinboro error. The Scots answered with a 4-1 spurt of their own to trim the lead to 19-18. Gannon scored the next four points to push the lead to 23-18. Neelands recorded a kill and Stayer an ace cutting the lead to 23-21. Gannon would hold off the late push and finish the third 25-22.
Neelands led the offense with 11 kills and three service aces. Parent added seven kills.
Grace Petro tallied 11 assists while
Laney Burns turned in nine. Neelands and Parent each turned in eight digs.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they host Pitt-Johnstown at 6 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
