A Pair of Double-Doubles Lift Men’s Basketball to Victory Over Mansfield

Edinboro, Pa. – Bryce Baez and Evan Berger each notched double-doubles as the Edinboro men's basketball team scored a 92-68 victory over visiting Mansfield Friday afternoon in PSAC action inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The Scots were in an early 4-0 hole at the 17:54 mark. A pair of 3-pointers from Baez and Rowan Carmichael helped the Scots tie the game 6-6 with 15:31 on the clock. Mansfield took an 11-8 lead with 12:01 left in the first half after a Julian Wilson and-one.
 
Edinboro answered back going on an 18-7 run capped by an Ibrihim Abdulmateen-Robinson jumper with 5:07 on the clock. Carmichael hit a 3-pointer at the 4:04 mark to extend the Scot lead to 31-21. The Mountaineers went on an 8-3 run to trim the lead to 34-29 with 1:28 left in the first half. Berger and Reynolds scored to extend the lead to 38-29 with 52 seconds remaining in the first half. Sterling Scott hit a shot at the buzzer to make it 38-31 at the half.
 
The Scots came out firing in the second half opening the half on a 16-4 run to build a 54-35 lead on a Mekhi Reynolds 3-pointer at the 14:45 mark. Wilson cut the lead to 17, 60-43, with 9:45 remaining.
 
Edinboro extended the lead to 85-54 on a Carmichael free throw at the 4:33 mark. The Scot lead wouldn't slip below 24 the rest of the way.
 
Carmichael led all scorers with 21 points. Baez added 18 points, 11 rebounds and a block. Berger notched 17 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Robinson added 12 points and seven boards.
 
Scott led the Mountaineers with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Joshua Franklin added 12 points while Diarmid Stewart tallied 11 points and six rebounds.
 
The Scots return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 3 p.m.
