Manfredo Tallies Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Tops Mansfield

Edinboro, Pa. – Sophomore Rachael Manfredo scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Edinboro women's basketball team notched a 70-52 victory over visiting Mansfield on Friday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The teams traded baskets to open the game tied 2-2 after a Delilah Nazih layup at the 8:36 mark. The Scots went on a 13-0 run with five different Edinboro players scoring led by six points from Kassie Potts to build a 15-2 lead.
 
Katie Sheeler stopped the run with a 3-pointer at the 4:17 mark. Edinboro closed out the opening frame with another 10-2 spurt to build a 25-7 lead after the first quarter.
 
Edinboro increased the lead to 31-7 lead on a Hope Garrity triple with 8:34 on the clock. The Mountaineers trimmed the advantage to 33-19 with a 12-2 run of their own capped by a Jenna Kasmierski jumper with 6:08 left in the second.
 
The next six points went to the Scots with buckets by Garrity, Carmen Vasquez and Manfredo to push the lead to 39-19 at the 4:50 mark. Edinboro went to the half with a 46-28 lead.
 
In the third quarter, the Edinboro lead grew to 23, 59-36, after a Vasquez layup with 2:31 remaining. The Scot lead would not fall below 16 the rest of the way.
 
Manfredo added a pair of blocks and a pair of steals to her double-double. Garrity scored 15 points to go with five rebounds and two helpers. Haddad also reached double figures with 14 points while also notching four assists, three rebounds and a steal.
 
Sheeler led the Mountaineers with 17 points and five assists. Kasmierski netted seven points and three rebounds.
 
The Scots return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
