Indiana, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team fell 93-73 to host IUP on Wednesday evening inside the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex.
The teams were even early with
Amaan Sandhu tying the game 11-11 with a 3-pointer at the 16:09 mark.
Bryce Baez gave the Scots a 14-11 lead with a triple of his own at the 15:13 mark. A Dallis Dillard layup and Christian Moore trey gave the Crimson Hawks a 16-14 advantage at 14:17.
Mekhi Reynolds tied the game with a jumper at 13:18.
IUP scored the next four points to take a 20-16 lead with 12:26 left in the first half.
Evan Berger connected on a 3-pointer and Reynolds a jumper to give the Scots a 21-20 lead at the 10:01 mark. The Crimson Hawks scored the next 10 points capped by a Dillard layup to take a 30-21 lead with 6:14 on the clock.
Rowan Carmichael cut the lead to 32-26 with a 3-pointer at the 4:26 mark. IUP scored the next four points to extend the advantage to 36-26. Reynolds trimmed the lead to 28-28 with a jumper with 1:28 left in the first. Layups by Moore and Dillard sent the Crimson Hawks into the break leading 42-30.
In the second half, Damir Brooks extended the IUP lead to 49-34 with a pair of free throws at the 18:06 mark. The Scots responded with a 12-3 spurt led by eight points from Sandhu cutting the lead to 52-46 with 16:12 on the clock.
The Crimson Hawks responded with a 13-5 spurt of their own capped by a Tyler Grove 3-pointer with 10:44 to play to make it 65-51. Edinboro chipped away at the lead with a 9-4 spurt to make it 69-60 at the 6:08 mark. IUP answered with a 14-3 run capped by a Brooks dunk to take an 83-63 lead. The IUP advantage wouldn't fall below 17 the rest of the way.
Sanduh paced the Fighting Scots with 23 points to go with seven rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Baez tallied 18 points and six boards. Reynolds and Carmichael each tallied 11 points.
Moore led the Crimson Hawks with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Kymani Merraro added 22 points while Dillard finished with 18.
The Scots return to McComb Fieldhouse on Saturday when they host Seton Hill at 3 p.m.
