Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped a 103-82 decision to No. 9 Gannon on Wednesday evening in the PSAC West opener for both teams.
Gannon got out to a 15-6 lead after a Lucas Sekasi bucket at the 14:28 mark.
Evan Berger hit a 3-pointer on the next possession to cut the lead to 15-9. Sekasi scored again to extend the lead to 17-9. Berger hit another trey to trim the lead to 17-12 with 13:18 on the clock. Precious Idiaru hit a 3-pointer of his own to make it 20-12.
Bryce Baez score layups on back-to-back possessions to pull the Scots within 20-16 with 12:09 left in the first half. Sekasi hit another 3-pointer for the Golden Knights to push the lead to 23-16 with 11:29 remaining.
Jonathan Anderson hit a pair of free throws and Berger another trey to trim the advantage to 23-21 at the 10:20 mark.
After a Mackenzie Morgan triple,
Dakari Bradford hit a 3-pointer and Baez gave the Scots the lead back 27-26 with an and-one. Gannon closed out the half on a 24-12 run to take a 51-38 lead at the break.
The Scots opened the second half fast with
Rowan Carmichael hitting a 3-pointer and
Mekhi Reynolds a pull-up jumper at the 19:06 mark to close the gap to 51-43. The Golden Knights scored the next seven points to push the lead to 58-43 with 16:51 remaining.
Edinboro answered back with a 14-8 spurt capped by a Baez layup with 11:54 to play to cut the advantage to 66-57. The lead hovered there with Gannon holding a 78-68 lead at the 8:25 mark. The Golden Knights used a 15-9 spurt to grow the lead to 93-77 with 4:10 left. Baez split a pair of free throws with 3:22 to play and that was as close as the Scots would get the rest of the way.
Berger lead the Edinboro offense with 25 points to go with six assists, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Baez added a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and one steal. Carmichael tallied 14 points including four 3-pointers.
Sekasi scored 25 for the Golden Knights while grabbing eight rebounds and four assists. Pace Prosser added 19 points, six assists and five rebounds.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host Penn State-Fayette at 3 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
