Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped a 92-76 decision to visiting Clarion Wednesday night in PSAC West action inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots took an early 9-6 lead on a
Rowan Carmichael 3-pointer at the 16:29 mark of the first half. The Golden Eagles scored the next five points capped by a Gavin Cote trey with 14:21 on the clock.
Evan Berger hit a jumper and
Mekhi Reynolds a triple to knot the score 14-14 with 13:33 left in the first.
The game see-sawed back and forth with the score still tied 25-25 after a Carmichael layup with 8:15 to go in the first half. Justice Easter gave Clarion a 26-25 advantage splitting a pair of free throws.
Jonathan Anderson gave the Scots the lead with a bucket.
Wilson-Daniel Charlot and Carmichael scored on the next two possessions giving the Scots a 31-26 at the 5:48 mark.
Michael Moore split a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 31-27.
Bryce Baez answered with a trey to push the advantage to 34-27. Clarion finished the half with a 14-2 run to take a 41-36 lead into the break.
In the second half, Clarion pushed the lead to 54-38 at the 17:29 mark. Reynold hit a 3-pointer sparking a 10-0 run closing the gap to 54-48 with 15:37 to play. The Golden Eagles scored the next seven points to push the lead back to 61-48 at the 14:10 mark.
Anderson made a layup and Baez two free throws to cut the lead to 61-52 with 10:21 remaining. That was as close as the Scots would get as Clarion went on a 10-2 run capped by a Cote 3-pointer. The Golden Eagle lead wouldn't fall below 13 the rest of the way.
Reynolds paced the Fighting Scots with 23 points to go with three rebounds and three assists. Berger notched a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Baez finished with 13 points and nine boards while Carmichael also tallied 13 points.
Cote led the Golden Eagles with 32 points and six rebounds. Trey Nelson tallied 20 points.
The Scots return to action on Saturday when they host California (Pa.) at 3 p.m. on Senior Day.
