Tiffin, Ohio – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team fell 17-11 to host Tiffin Wednesday afternoon in the Scots season opener.
The Dragons came out of the gate fast scoring the first three goals with a pair coming from Kenna Wigginton grabbing a 3-0 lead at the 11:02 mark.
Rylee Jones stopped the Tiffin run with a pair of goals and
Jacqui Detelich tied the game 3-3 with 8:00 left in the opening quarter.
Lauren Walsh and Lillian Graham put Tiffin back up 5-3 with back-to-back goals. Detleich scored her second goal of the game to trim the lead to 5-4. Tiffin took advantage of an Edinboro card to score a player up goal from Isabelle Vranjes to take a 6-4 lead at the end of the first.
The Dragons carried momentum into the second quarter scoring four straight goals to open the period building a 10-4 lead with 1:05 left in the quarter.
Natalia Farr scored her first collegiate goal with 16 seconds left. Tiffin scored at the buzzer to make it 11-5 Dragons at the break.
In the third, Tiffin extended the lead to 14-6 before
Ziola Giaramita scored her first collegiate goal to trim the advantage to 14-7 going to the fourth.
Dana Shehadeh scored to push the lead to 15-7. Jones went unassisted for three straight goals to cut the lead to 15-10 with 7:30 to play. Wigginton stopped the Scot run at 4:56 to make it 16-10. Giaramita scored her second of the game to make it 16-11, but Vranjes scored an insurance tally in the final 10 seconds to set the final.
Jones led the Edinboro offense with five goals on the day. Detelich chipped in three goals and Giaramita added a pair of goals.
Olivia Kaminsky scooped up a team-high seven draws.
The Scots are back in action on Thursday March 5 when they travel to Point Park for a 7 p.m. contest with the Pioneers.
