Greensburg, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth contest to host Seton Hill 89-86 on a buzzer beater Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.
The Griffins held a 79-74 lead with 4:47 to play after a pair of free throws from Dimitrio Sklaveitis.
Dakari Bradford hit a 3-pointer and
Bryce Baez hit a pair of free throws to knot the score at 79-79.
Evan Berger gave the Scots the lead 81-79 with a bucket with 3:30 to play. Rashaad Williams tied the game with basket and a Kedrick Curtis gave Seton Hill an 84-81 advantage with 2:37 left.
Jonathan Anderson tied the game immediately with a triple of his own on the ensuing Scot possession.
Kedrick Curtis made a layup with 30 seconds on the clock to give the Griffins an 86-84 lead. Berger responded with 21 seconds to go with a jumper in the lane to tie the game up. Dean Simos hit a 3-pointer as time expired from the corner to lift the Griffins to the 89-86 win.
The game was back-and-forth early with four lead changes in the first three minutes of play. The Griffins settled in first building an 18-10 on a Camden Brewer 3-pointer at the 11:56 mark. The Scots responded with a 13-4 run capped by an Anderson and-one to take a 23-22 lead with 8:25 left in the first half.
The lead changed hands eight times over the next six minutes with Ibrahim Abdulmateen-Robinson put the Scots back ahead 34-31 with a trey at the 2:41 mark. With 1:13 remaining in the first half, Kedrick Curtis put Seton Hill up 38-36 with a 3-pointer.
Rowan Carmichael drove the lane and scored to send the teams to the locker room tied at 38.
The Griffins came out of the break fast using a 19-5 run to take a 57-43 lead on a Williams jumper. Edinboro chipped away at the lead with an 8-2 spurt the close the gap to 59-51 with 13:44 on the clock after a Berger layup.
Simos slowed the Edinboro run with a layup to push the lead to 10, 61-51. Carmichael pulled the Scots within six, 65-59, with a layup at the midway point of the second half. A Williams old-school 3-point play extended the Griffin lead to 68-59 with 9:50 to play. Carmichael capped an 11-6 run with a 3-pointer at the 7:28 mark to pull the Scots within 74-70. Curtis pushed the lead to 75-70 splitting a pair of free throws before two Baez free throws and a Berger layup made the lead 75-74 with 5:57 to go. Sklavenitis made a layup and two free throws to set up the chaotic final four minutes.
Carmichael led the Edinboro offense with 24 points to go with two assists and two steals. Berger added 17 points and four helpers. Baez tallied a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. Robinson chipped in 11 points.
Brewer paced the Griffins with 26 points including five 3-pointers. Curtis notched 21 points and Sklavenitis tallied 16.
The Scots will be the sixth seed in the PSAC West and open PSAC West play at IUP at 7 p.m. on Monday.
