Greensburg, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped an 84-65 decision to host Seton Hill on Saturday in their regular season finale.
The Griffins got out to a fast start building a 19-2 lead with 3:32 left in the first quarter.
Ava Haddad made back-to-back buckets and
Carla Brown split a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 21-7 with 1:59 left in the first quarter. Seton Hill scored the next four points to take a 25-7 lead into the second quarter.
The lead grew to 24, 35-11, after a pair of Hailee Ford free throws at the 7:43 mark.
Rachael Manfredo made a pair of layups on either side of a
Taylor Blunt trey to cut the advantage to 35-18 with 5:26 left in the second. Mia Kalich pushed the lead back to 46-22 with a pair of free throws with 1:50 to play in the second. Layups from Brown and
Taylor Phillips pulled the Scots within 46-26 at the break.
Edinboro came out of the half fast going on a 10-2 run to cut the Griffin lead to 48-36 after a
Hope Garrity bucket with 7:12 remaining in the third. Seton Hill responded with an 11-5 spurt to extend the lead to 59-41 at the 2:02 mark. A Manfredo free throw and
Bailie Brinson scored a bucket to send the Scots to the fourth trailing 59-44.
The Scots would get as close as 68-55 with 6:22 to play on a Haddad basket, but that was s close as the score would get as the Griffins held off the late Scot push.
Manfredo posted a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds to go with four steals and two helpers. Garrity notched 13 points and two boards. Blunt chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Haddad notched 11 points and four boards.
Helene Cowan paced the Griffins with 19 points. Kalich added 18 points and 14 rebounds. Ford added 15 points and nine boards.
The Scots will host California (PA) in the first round of the PSAC Tournament on Monday at 5:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
