EDINBORO, Pa. — The Edinboro women's soccer secured a 1-0 victory over IUP on Saturday behind a goal from
Jada Cole and a clean sheet from
Brianna Garey.
Edinboro applied early pressure with
Samantha Saylor putting the first shot on goal in the fourth minute. The Crimson Hawks best chance game in the 12th minute when Zoe Ans-Bitchoka's long range shot hit the right woodwork. Cole broke the deadlock for Scots in the 33rd minute taking an
Elise Cacchione pass off a throw in down the left side of the 18 and beat the keeper inside the left post. Edinboro took the 1-0 edge into the half.
The Scots maintained their lead through a defensive second period. IUP put pressure on the Fighting Scots early, with a series of corner kicks and a shot by Melody Leiva that went over the top in the 47th minute. Garey made several timely saves for Edinboro including a bottom center shot by Carolina Guiterrez in the 53rd minute and another from Paige Fausey at the 70th minute.
Garey recorded four saves to earn the shutout. Cole tallied the game-winning goal, converting one of her three shots with two on target. Cacchione contributed an assist while Saylor managed two shots, with one on goal.
The Scots return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 4 p.m. kickoff with the Rock.
