EDINBORO, Pa. — The Edinboro women's soccer team defeated California (PA) 2-0 on Saturday at Sox Harrison Stadium.
The Scots opened the scoring at 9:03,
Jada Cole put a shot on goal that was saved, but
Elise Cacchione passed to
Eden Gerlach who finished with her left foot into the upper left corner for a 1-0 lead.
Grace Madison added to it at 26:22, putting the Fighting Scots ahead 2-0 after Kaleigh Rexroad saved her initial shot before Madison pounced on her own rebound. The Scots kept pressing with a corner kick at 29:13, a
Sydney Patterson shot missed just wide. Madison had another attempt at 43:55, and the Scots took the 2-0 lead into the break.
The Fighting Scots created the first shot on goal of the second half at 53:56, when
Jada Cole forced a save, before
Brianna Garey stopped Cal's first shot on frame at 56:16. The Vulcans pressed from 62:40 to 63:20 with two shots that required team saves and two corner kicks, but the Scots came back with attempts from Cacchione,
Madison Schneider and Cole. Garey and the Scot defense clamped down late preserving the shutout.
Garey made five saves over 90 minutes and recorded a clean sheet. Gerlach scored on her lone shot and was credited with the game-winning goal. Madison scored and led the Fighting Scots with four shots, putting two on goal. Cacchione recorded an assist and placed all three of her shots on goal.
The Scots return to action on Wednesday with a trip to Clarion. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
