CLARION, Pa. — The Edinboro women's soccer team defeated Clarion 1-0 on Wednesday night in PSAC West action.
The Scots generated the first looks of the first half, with
Grace Madison shooting high at 1:57 and
Jada Cole putting an attempt on frame at 3:47. The Golden Eagles pushed back with Sydney Taracatac's shot at 7:55, a Ciara DiMauro attempt at 13:47 and corner kicks at 13:51 and 15:08.
Sydney Patterson broke the tie at 25:12 off an assist from Madison. Cole played a corner to the back post where Madison collected. After the first attempt by Patterson was blocked, Madison gathered again and dropped the ball back to Patterson for the opening tally. The Golden Eagles generated two shots and two corners before halftime, but the Scots carried the 1-0 lead into the break.
Madison had a shot blocked and the Scots earned a corner in the opening minutes of the second half before the Golden Eagles pushed forward with three saved shots between 48:27 and 50:26.
Brianna Garey stopped attempts from Nadia Gill, MaKenna Doran and Kelly O'Donnell during that stretch. The Fighting Scots later earned a corner at 63:59 and got a Cole shot in the 72nd minute, while Garey made three more saves in the final 10 minutes as the Scots completed the scoreless half and finished a 1-0 win.
Patterson scored the game-winning goal and put two of her three shots on goal. Garey made six saves over 90 minutes and recorded her third shutout of the season. Cole led the Scots with four shots, including one on goal. Madison tallied an assist and added two shots.
The Fighting Scots travel to Seton Hill on Saturday for a noon kickoff with the Griffins.
