EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2012) – A goal from Liz Debo in the 60th minute was enough for the Edinboro women's soccer team to outlast Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday night as the Fighting Scots recorded their seventh shutout of the year in a 2-0 victory.

The victory improves Edinboro to 9-3-1 on the year and 6-3-1 in the PSAC while IUP falls to 8-5-2, 5-5-1.

Edinboro applied pressure early and often during the first half. The Fighting Scots reeled off 15 shots during the period, but could not break through into the scoring column. Debo had an excellent chance in the 32nd minute with a one-on-one breakaway, but her shot was stopped by charging IUP goalie Mara Hricik and the two teams played to a scoreless first half draw.

Debo would break through early in the second half, however. An IUP foul set up an Edinboro free kick at midfield to start the scoring sequence as Debo eventually took a header pass from Jenna Madison and delivered through a crowd of defenders. The shot sailed over the goalie from the close right wing for a 1-0 advantage. The score was the sophomore's 11th goal on the year.

Edinboro's defense was able to make the lead stick. The Fighting Scots continued to control the tempo of the game playing the majority of the contest in the IUP end, outshooting the visitors by a 21-7 margin for the game. The Crimson Hawks' chances were erased in the final seconds as an own goal gave Edinboro an insurmountable advantage.

Meghan Kelly made four saves in net to earn her fifth shutout win of the season.

Next up for Edinboro is a trip to Lock Haven on Tuesday afternoon.
