EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2012) – Senior Karisa Fernandez keyed the Edinboro offense with a pair of scores while freshman Jansen Hartmann added a goal of her own to cap the regular season home finale with a 3-1 victory over East Stroudsburg.

Wednesday's win was crucial as it vaults Edinboro ahead of East Stroudsburg in the PSAC standings and will likely allow the Fighting Scots to hold an edge in the all-important regional rankings which determine NCAA bids. The Fighting Scots entered the day one point behind ESU in the PSAC standings.

Edinboro improves to 11-3-2 and 8-3-2 in the PSAC while ESU drops to 9-4-4, 7-3-3 on the year. The Fighting Scots were ranked fifth in the last NCAA Atlantic Region poll ahead of East Stroudsburg in seventh.

The two squads played through a scoreless 45 minutes, but the Warriors had a strong chance in the 18th minute. Marissa Spitler had an open look in front, but Edinboro goalie Meghan Kelly was able to make a tremendous leaping save to keep ESU off the board.

Edinboro struck quickly in the second half. Fernandez capitalized on an ESU turnover during the 49th minute inside the 15-yard line and was able to beat the keeper to the right post for a 1-0 advantage.

The Warriors had another excellent opportunity four minutes later when Madeline DeVico took a cross and fired from inside the goalie box on the near post. Kelly again made the stop, this time a remarkable diving save to preserve the lead.

Hartmann tallied her score on some nifty team work at 79:01. Liz Debo crossed to the near wing to Jenna Madison at close range, drawing the attention of the ESU keeper. As the goalie approached Madison, the senior flipped ahead to Hartmann who had an open net for her fourth goal on the year.

The Warriors made things interesting in the 83rd minute as Carly Collins took a corner kick directly in front of the net and scored to cut the Boro lead in half.

Fernandez put the game on ice, however, in the 89th minute as she scored from 20 yards out for her second goal of the game and eighth of the year.

Kelly made seven saves to record the victory while ESU goalie Brittain Wagner made six saves.

ESU held the edge in shots, 19-15 during the day.

Edinboro finishes its regular season schedule with a trip to Mansfield on Saturday. The Fighting Scots have secured a spot in the upcoming PSAC Tournament, but their seeding and opponent remain up in the air. Wednesday's victory moved the Scots into fourth place in the conference standings for the moment barring the outcome of Gannon's late afternoon contest with Slippery Rock. The top four seeds earn home matches in the first round.

MATCH NOTES: The goals from Fernandez give her 31 for her career and tie her for third-most all-time in Edinboro history with Angie de Almeida … Fernandez vaulted ahead of Amy Hazen and Rachel Dahlstrand who each scored 30 goals in red and white … Fernandez also moved into third place in the Fighting Scots record book with 80 points, passing Hazen's 79.
