Six Scots Score in Double Digits in Season-Opening 100-35 Win over PSU Greater Allegheny

EDINBORO, Pa. – Six players scored in double figures on Wednesday night to lead Edinboro to a 100-35 win over visiting Penn State Greater Allegheny in the season opener for the Fighting Scots.  The win snapped a two-game losing streak in season openers for the Fighting Scots and kept them perfect in nine meetings against the Lions.  Penn State Greater Allegheny is now 1-2.

Xavier Churnac led Edinboro with 16 points, adding six rebounds.  The 6'4” junior is a transfer from Jamestown(NY) Community College in his first game at Edinboro.  He came off the bench to make 7 of 12 field goals.

Bryan Theriot led a quartet of players with 12 points as the 6'9” junior pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.  The backcourt tandem of Jay Fletcher and Isaiah Prince added 12 points apiece, as did Johnathan Logan.  Logan, a 6'7” junior who played at Community College of Beaver County, made 4 of 7 three-pointers.  Bobby Davis was the final double figure operative with 11 points, adding nine rebounds in a reserve role.  All ten Boro players scored at least four points.

Nick Dizon was the lone player to reach double figures for the Lions, finishing with 10 points.  PSU Greater Allegheny shot just 18.8 percent from the floor (12 of 64), including 3 of 32 in the second half.  The Lions were also guilty of 25 turnovers, leading to 31 Edinboro points.

After a slow start Edinboro ended the night shooting 59.0 percent from the floor (36 of 61), including a sizzling 69.0 percent (20 of 29) in the second half.  The Fighting Scots also held a 55-36 advantage on the boards.
               
Penn State Greater Allegheny actually jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Edinboro answered with a 15-2 run and eventually built the lead to 43-21 at the half.  After scoring the final four points of the first half Edinboro opened the second half with an 11-0 run to make it 15 straight points.  Fletcher accounted for seven of the eleven points. 

At one point Penn State Greater Allegheny went seven minutes without scoring and over ten minutes without making a basket.  Edinboro scored 20 straight points to go up 76-25 with 8:54 to play, and led 85-28, a run of 29-3, before the Lions hit a three-pointer with 5:38 remaining.

The Fighting Scots returns to action on Saturday, November 24 hosting Penn State Beaver.  That contest tips off at 3 p.m.
