WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2012) - A West Chester goal in the 85th minute snapped No. 20 Edinboro's five-match winning streak and left the Fighting Scots with their first setback of the year, 1-0, against their similarly nationally-ranked PSAC rival.
The rematch of last year's NCAA Atlantic Regional first round game was a defensive struggle. West Chester, which entered the day ranked 12th in the latest national poll, struck on a goal from Cara Deola in the 85th minute to break a scoreless tie and move the Golden Rams to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in the PSAC.
Edinboro (5-1, 3-1) held the edge in shots during the scoreless first half, 4-3, but West Chester turned up the pressure after the break. The Golden Rams fired off 11 shots in the second half to Edinboro's three with the final shot coming off the foot of Deola.
The Fighting Scots had one last opportunity to tie late as
Allyson Overly sent at shot wide at 89'.
Karisa Fernandez and
Stephanie Tighe each had shots on goal that were turned away by winning goalkeeper Shannon Fedyk.
Meghan Kelly recorded five saves for the Scots.
Edinboro returns to action Wednesday at local rival Gannon.
