EDINBORO, Pa. (Sept. 18) – The No. 12 Edinboro women's soccer team seeks to bounce back from its first defeat of the season when it makes the short trip to face nearby rival Gannon on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Edinboro (5-1, 3-1 PSAC) battled to the final minutes at No. 12 West Chester last Saturday before the Golden Rams separated themselves with the game's only goal in the 85
th minute.
That goal was just the second allowed by the Fighting Scots defense this season as they have posted shutouts in four of five victories. For the year, Edinboro has outshot its opposition 102-61.
The short trip up I-79 has always been a tough test for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro holds a 6-9-2 all-time record against Gannon (5-1, 2-1) after a 2-1 loss last season and is 0-2-2 against their local rival since their last win, 4-1 at Gannon in 2006.
Gannon is led by freshman forward Sammy Valloud who has five goals and 11 points. Edinboro's
Liz Debo also has five goals and 11 points on the season. The two players are tied with three other players for the PSAC lead in goals. Both teams have had stellar goalkeeping – Edinboro's
Meghan Kelly has a 0.33 goals against average while Gannon's Sarah Geffel has a 0.49 GAA.
Like Edinboro, Gannon began the year at 5-0 before suffering a loss in its last time out, a 3-2 defeat at East Stroudsburg last Saturday.
Wednesday's match concludes a string of four straight road matches for the Fighting Scots. Next up is a return home to Sox Harrison Stadium vs. Mercyhurst on Saturday.
