First Half Offensive Attack Leads Gannon Past No. 12 Edinboro

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) ERIE, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2012) – Gannon used a ferocious first half offensive attack to establish early control and hold on for a 4-0 victory over No. 12 Edinboro on Wednesday night at Gannon University Field.

Edinboro (5-2, 3-2 PSAC) had the first two shots of the game during the opening six minutes, but then Gannon began to apply pressure. The Golden Knights broke through as Kaitlyn Kissell scored on a header off a corner kick in the 19th minute. Gannon added to its lead in the 26th minute as Sammy Valloud beat the goalkeeper to the left and into an empty net off a rebound for a two-goal edge. The Golden Knights then stretched their lead to three on another header goal from Sarah Deck at 38'.

Gannon (6-1, 3-1) kept the pressure on in the second half, adding a goal when Mani Brueckner fired a shot into the upper right of the net from 20 yards out in the 61st minute.

Edinboro had one of its best opportunities to break into the scoring in the 86th minute when Nicole Dunlap hit the crossbar on a shot attempt.

Meghan Kelly recorded seven saves in over 76 minutes in net. Sophomore Mary Murray saw her first time in net this season and had one save while not allowing any scoring over the final 13:42. Dunlap led the way offensively with three shot attempts and two shots on goal.

Edinboro put 10 of its 15 shots on goal during the game, but Gannon goalkeeper Sarah Geffel turned every Fighting Scots shot away for the shutout win.

The Fighting Scots return home to face local rival Mercyhurst at Sox Harrison Stadium on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
