The Game Stories
} Edinboro snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday with an 81-74 win at Lock Haven, and basically did so with six players. The Fighting Scots welcomed back swingman
Alex Moore, who had missed the previous six games with an injury, but had to do without leading scorer and rebounder
Bryan Theriot, plus reserves
Jamal Bailey and
Guy Rundle. All three were injured in the previous game with Gannon.
}
Jay Fletcher was also injured in the Gannon game, but he was able to return at Lock Haven. In fact, the senior guard had a season-high 27 points and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds. He scored 20 of his points in the second half as the Scots rallied from a 39-31 halftime deficit.
} The Fighting Scots come in with a 10-5 record and are 6-5 in the PSAC West. They won five of eight games against the Eastern Division, but had lost to California(Pa.) and Gannon in the Western Division prior to the win over Lock Haven. The 10-5 ledger is the best after 15 games since 2008-09.
} Edinboro concludes a stretch of five home games in six contests with a brutal three-game set that starts with the two co-leaders in the PSAC West in Indiana(Pa.) and Slippery Rock, followed by a contest on Wednesday, January 30 against Mercyhurst. All told, those three teams have a combined record of 36-11.
} Head coach Greg Walcavich is in his 24th season in charge of the Fighting Scots, showing a 422-246 record. Including stints at Birmingham Southern and West Virginia Wesleyan he is 576-309 overall as he is in his 31st season as a head coach.
} IUP has enjoyed great success since the arrival of Joe Lombardi. The former University of Pittsburgh assistant coach took over a program under NCAA probation in 2006-07 and has guided it to four straight NCAA playoff appearances and three consecutive PSAC West regular season titles. The Crimson Hawks are currently 13-2 and six points away from perfection. The two losses are to Cheyney (64-60) and East Stroudsburg (57-55), both on the road. They are ranked ninth in the latest NABC Division II Top 25.
} The Edinboro-IUP contest features the top scoring team in the PSAC against the top defensive squad. Edinboro comes in averaging 79.6 ppg. to lead the conference, while IUP allows just 57.5 ppg. The Crimson Hawks have held nine opponents under 60 points, and they have not allowed more than 72 points in any game. Bowie State managed that in the second game of the year. Edinboro is 8-0 when scoring 80-or-more points, but just 2-5 when scoring less than that.
} Edinboro was picked to finish fourth in the PSAC?West. Indiana(Pa.), meanwhile, was chosen the preseason favorite in the Western Division after winning the regular season crown a year ago, going 19-3 and finishing 23-6 overall.

Scouting #9 Indiana(Pa.)
} The preseason favorites in the PSAC West, the Crimson Hawks have not disappointed. They come in with a 13-2 record overall and are 9-2 in the PSAC West, with the two losses by a combined six points. IUP showcases the stingiest defense in the PSAC, allowing just 57.5 ppg. The Crimson Hawks are also third in field goal percentage defense at 38.6 percent, and are third in rebounding margin at plus 4.3. Leading scorer (14.1 ppg.) and rebounder (6.1 rpg.) Mathis Keita played at Gonzaga a year ago. The 6'5” junior hails from France and played in 39 games for the Bulldogs his first two years. Scooter Renkin is the second of three double-figure scorers and one of five players with 10-or-more three-pointers. A 6'4” senior who played his freshman season at James Madison, Renkin averages 12.0 ppg. and 4.4 rpg. He has made a team-high 20 three-pointers in 50 attempts.
