Theriot v. Urbana
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 5, 2013) – With just eight healthy players due to injury and illness, the Edinboro men's basketball team put up a good fight before fading late and suffering a 74-62 loss at Millersville on Saturday night.  The PSAC crossover loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Fighting Scots as they fell to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC.  Millersville improved to 9-4 and 5-2, respectively.  The loss also means Edinboro has still not won in eight tries at Pucillo Gymnasium.

The Fighting Scots were already without sixth man Alex Moore and his 7.3 ppg. and 4.1 rpg.  Moore has missed the last three games with an injury.  Johnathan Logan (9.7 ppg., 4.6 rpg.), missed tonight's game, leaving the Scots without their top three-point threat and second-leading rebounder.

With several other players, including leading scorer and rebounder Bryan Theriot, less than 100 percent and playing for the second straight night on the road, the Fighting Scots battled to a 28-28 tie at the half.

The second half proved their undoing, as the Scots shot just 30.3 percent from the floor and struggled on the boards.  In a game which featured seven ties and eight lead changes, the game went back and forth early in the second half.  A layup by Isaiah Prince with 13:15 remaining gave Edinboro its final lead at 40-39.

Kyle Richardson answered with his lone basket of the game, a three-pointer, to give the Marauders the lead for good at 42-40.  The lead was still just two points at 52-50 with 7:47 to play when Millersville went on the game's decisive run.  The Marauders scored the next ten points, six by Elijah Obade, over just less than a four-minute period to grab a 62-50 lead.  Edinboro missed all six of its shots during the stretch.

The lead grew to as many as 14 points at 65-51 on a three-point play by Larry Grant with 3:15 left to play before Edinboro closed the gap to eight points a minute later.  Jay Fletcher hit a three-pointer, and after a Millersville free throw, Bobby Davis followed with a jumper.  Will Marrow II hit two free throws to make it 66-58.

The Scots were forced to foul, however, and Millersville went 6-for-6 from the line to end the game.  In addition, Davis and Marrow fouled out, leaving Edinboro with just six players at the end of the game.

Prince led Edinboro with 19 points, adding six rebounds.  Theriot finished with his sixth double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds while managing to play 24 minutes.  Fletcher was also in double digits with 10 points, and matched his career-high with eight rebounds.

Millersville also had three players in double figures, led by Grant, who made 10 of 11 free throws to finish with 19 points.  Anthony Coleman added 18 points and Obade had 11 points and 16 rebounds.  The top rebounder in the PSAC, he dominated the boards down the stretch, finishing with 11 rebounds in the second half.

The top scoring team in the PSAC, Edinboro was held to a season-low 62 points.  The Fighting Scots shot just 33.9 percent from the floor, the second-lowest figure of the year, but did limit the Marauders to 37.5 percent.  Almost half of Millersville's 64 shots came from beyond the three-point arc, as the Marauders made 6 of 30 attempts.  Edinboro was just 2 of 11.  The Scots went 22 of 28 from the line, while Millersville was 20 of 26.  Millersville held a 40-37 lead on the glass after Edinboro held a three-rebound lead at the half.  Edinboro committed 16 costly turnovers that led to 16 points.  The Scots forced 12 turnovers, good for nine points.

The Scots will have some time to get healthy, playing again on Friday, January 11.  They host the final crossover set of games, facing Kutztown on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and East Stroudsburg the next day.
