Edinboro Faces Gannon in Crucial PSAC Match

Riding a six-game winning streak, the Edinboro women's soccer team will make the short trip up to Gannon in a crucial battle for positioning amongst the top of the conference. The Fighting Scots are currently tied for fifth in the PSAC with 21 points, 7-3-0 record in conference, and 9-3-0 overall record. The Lady Knights 8-3-0 overall and in the PSAC and their 24 points are tied for second in the conference. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16.

The Fighting Scots continued their winning streak last week when they knocked off Clarion and Indiana (Pa.). Last time out, Edinboro won 1-0 with the game-winner coming from Jansen Hartmann. The rest of the game was quiet, as IUP could not even manage to get a shot on goal.

Edinboro continues to be one of the top scoring teams in the conference. They trail only California (Pa.) in goals scored and are third in scoring margin behind Cal and Slippery Rock. Alex Brown and Liz Debo continue to be amongst the top goal scorers in the conference despite the IUP game being the first in the winning streak that neither scored a goal. Meghan Kelly recorded her fifth shutout of the season, which puts her within one of the single-season record. The Fighting Scots are now outscoring teams 17-6 during the winning streak.

Gannon comes in off of two dominant performances. They defeated Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown by a combined score of 10-3 and have won five of their last six. They are right behind the Fighting Scots in goals scored and third in the PSAC in that statistic. The Lady Knights are led by Mani Brueckner who tallied five goals and four assists in two games last week, totaling a stellar 14 points. She leads the conference in points, as she her 26 points makes her the only current player in the PSAC over 20 points. Brueckner also leads the conference with 12 assists. In net, senior Sarah Geffel has played nearly every minute for the Lady Knights. She has a 1.31 goals against average and 78.5 save percentage coming into the match.

Gannon leads the all-time series 10-6-2, winning the last two straight. While the Fighting Scots have won their last three road matches in a row, the Lady Knights have won seven consecutive regular season home matches, including a 5-0 record at home this year.
