Fighting Scots to Play Key PSAC Match at Kutztown on Tuesday

EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2013) – The Edinboro women's soccer team begins its final push for its fourth straight PSAC playoff berth on Tuesday afternoon, playing a 1 p.m. match at Kutztown.  Both teams are in the thick of the playoff chase, with Edinboro tied with Gannon for fourth place with 25 points and Kutztown totaling 24 points, good for sixth place. In addition, Edinboro was ranked sixth in last week's NSCAA Atlantic Region poll, while Kutztown was ranked fourth.  The contest is a rematch of last year's PSAC quarterfinal match, with the Fighting Scots prevailing 2-1.

The Fighting Scots look to extend an eight-match unbeaten streak in which they have gone 7-0-1 to improve their season record to 10-3-1.  It marks the fourth straight year head coach Gary Kagiavas has guided his squad to 10-or-more wins.  More importantly, Edinboro is now 8-3-1 in PSAC action.  Edinboro is in search of its fourth straight PSAC playoff berth.

The Fighting Scots come off a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday, fueled by a pair of goals by Liz Debo.  The junior forward now has a team-high nine goals, along with one assist, for a team-leading 19 points.  She has moved into a tie for fifth place in career goals with 30. 

Freshman forward Alex Brown adds seven goals, while junior midfielder Becca Costello has five goals and two assists for 12 points.  Junior Meghan Kelly will be in goal. She has a 10-3-1 record with a 1.01 goals against average and holds the career record for victories. 

Kutztown enters with a 8-5-0 record and has the same record in conference play.  After running off a seven-match winning streak, the Golden Bears have lost their last two contests. However, those losses have come to 21st-ranked Slippery Rock (2-1) and ninth-ranked California(Pa.) (2-0). 

Sam Costello leads Kutztown with four goals and eight assists for 16 points.  Megan Frailer adds four goals and two assists for 10 points.  Alina Rakiewicz has seen most of the action in goal for the Golden Bears.  The senior has a 0.88 GAA with five shutouts.
Edinboro holds an 8-6-1 lead in the all-time series.  The Fighting Scots won both meetings last year, adding 3-2 win in overtime to the playoff victory.
