EDINBORO, Pa. (December 20, 2013) – The Edinboro men's basketball team will conclude the 2013 portion of its schedule on Saturday, December 21 with a PSAC crossover contest at West Chester. Tipoff at Hollinger Fieldhouse is set for 3 p.m. Edinboro comes in with a 5-4 overall record after suffering a 102-69 defeat to 12
th-ranked East Stroudsburg on Wednesday. West Chester suffered its second straight defeat on Wednesday, dropping a 62-60 decision at Slippery Rock to fall to 6-4.
A year ago Edinboro claimed a 94-73 victory over the Golden Rams at McComb Fieldhouse as
Bryan Theriot led six players in double figures with 25 points. The 6'9" center made 6 of 8 field goals and 13 of 15 free throws, adding 15 rebounds.
Isaiah Prince added 17 points and
Jay Fletcher had 16 points and seven assists. Eric Frans paced West Chester with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Shannon Givens had 15 points and Troy Hockaday had 14.
Edinboro jumped out to a 51-29 halftime lead before having to hold off a late WCU rally. The Golden Rams would close to eight points at 81-73 with just under four minutes to play, but Edinboro would score the final 13 points of the game, making 10 of 12 free throws.
First-year head coach
Pat Cleary once again relies on Theriot. The senior leads the team both in scoring and rebounding, and was one of the few bright spots on Wednesday with 23 points. He is averaging 18.8 ppg. and 8.3 rpg. while shooting 60.6 percent from the floor and 93.1 percent from the line, making 54 of 58 free throws. He has climbed into 25
th place in career scoring with 1,075 career points, and is 22
nd in career rebounds (534).
Jonny Marsh is also in double digits at 17.8 ppg., along with leading the Fighting Scots with 25 3-pointers in 51 attempts, and handing out 40 assists. Backcourt mate
Henri Wade-Chatman adds 13.2 ppg. and has 33 assists.
Johnathan Logan is a fourth Scot in double figures at 11.1 ppg., adduing 5.3 rpg. The 6'8" forward has made 24 of 60 3-pointers.
West Chester has had ten different players start this season for head coach Damien Blair. Five players are averaging in double figures, led by Hockaday, a 6'1" senior who averages 17.7 ppg. Eddie Mitchell, a 6'1" sophomore, adds 13.6 ppg,. and spends a good deal of time at the free throw line, making 60 of 70. Swingman R.J. Griffin contributes 12.8 ppg. and has made 20 of 47 three's, with Cory Blake, a 6'5" guard, coming in at 12.6 ppg. and 6.6 rpg. Givens, a 5'11" senior, is the final double figure operative at 10.5 ppg. Matt Wisely, a 6'6" sophomore, is the top rebounder at 7.7 per game.
Edinboro returns to action in 2014, returning to southeastern Pennsylvania to play at Cheyney on January 3 and at Millersville on January 4.
