Bryan Theriot returned from a five-game absence to score 20 points and grab six rebounds, but it wasn't enough to stop California(Pa.) from sweeping the regular season series with Edinboro.  Quentin Harding made two free throws with 4.8 seconds left to propel the Vulcans to a 73-72 win at McComb Fieldhouse. Jay Fletcher had 14 points, with Johnathan Logan adding 11 markers.

Pat Cleary (Edinboro '99) is in his first year as head coach of the Fighting Scots, taking over for his predecessor Greg Walcavich, who spent 24 years at the helm of the Edinboro program. Cleary previously worked as an assistant under Walcavich for 16 years, first as a student aide before becoming a full-time assistant coach. He is credited for recruiting many of Edinboro's top contributors in recent years. The first-year head coach takes over a team that finished 18-10 a year ago and reached the PSAC Tournament Semifinals. Cleary has led the Fighting Scots to a 4-2 record so far this season with wins over Thiel, Penn State Greater Allegheny, Urbana, and Penn State New Kensington.

Career Record: 458-288, (27th year)

Bill Brown, Cal is in his 18th year in charge of the Vulcans, showing a record of 334-166 during that period.  He ranks as Cal's all-time winningest coach thanks to eight 2o-win campaigns.  Brown has led Cal to 12 appearances in the PSAC?Tournament, highlighted by league titles in 1999 and 2008.   In 27 years as a head coach at three schools, he owns a 458-288 record with eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.  Brown spent time as an assistant coach at Tennesse, Arkansas, and Kent State. He also hired VCU assistant coach Shaka Smart as a graduate assistant after Smart graduated from Kenyon College.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Edinboro
Bryan Theriot (C, 6-9, Sr.) – earned first team All-PSAC West accolades a year ago after averaging 18.1 ppg. and 8.9 rpg. Was named a preseason All-PSAC choice. Shot 55.4 percent from the floor and 87.2 percent at the line. Averaging 12.0 ppg. and 7.0 rpg through two games this season…eclipsed 1,000 career points in Edinboro's last game against Seton Hill. The center posted 20 points to go along with nine rebounds for the game, giving him 1,011 career points. Theriot becomes just the 15th player in Fighting Scot men's basketball history with at least 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.
 
Jonny Marsh (G, 6-0, Jr.)  – is a first-year player for the Fighting Scots after transferring from Niagara County Comm. College. Earned PSAC West Player of the Week honors after posting back-to-back 30-plus point games last week. The junior poured in a season-high 34 points in Edinboro's win at Urbana on Nov. 18, before recording 30 markers in the Scots' loss at Pitt-Johnstown on Nov. 23. Earned first-team all-region honors at NCCC in 2012-13, averaging 16.9 ppg and made 82 of 193 3-pointers. Second in the PSAC and Fighting Scots in scoring, averaging 20.2 points per game.


California (Pa.)
Alonzo Murphy  (F, 6-8, Jr.) – is the Vulcans' second leading scorer and leading rebounder, averaging 11.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He did not start in Cal's last game against Mercyhurst, but has started all other games for the Vulcans this season. Murphy scored a season-high 19 points on nine of 15 shooting against Shepherd in the season opener on Nov. 9th.

Tynell Fortune (G, 5-10, Jr.) – is Cal's leading scorer, averaging 12.3 points per contest. He set a career-high with 20 points and three assists off the bench in the Vulcan's loss against Slippery Rock on Nov. 23rd. Fortune had 16 points against Edinboro in the two teams' last meeting.

THE GAME STORIES
• Both Edinboro and California (Pa.) are in search of their first PSAC West victory of the season. The Fighting Scots come in at 0-2 in the conference for the year after a 95-93 loss at the buzzer against Seton Hill on Wednesday. The Vulcans enter Saturday's matchup with an 0-3 mark in conference play after a 64-51 defeat at Mercyhurst in their last contest.
• California (Pa.) comes in at 1-6 overall with an 0-3 record in PSAC West play. The Vulcans lone victory came in an 83-49 win over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Nov. 12th. Prior to this season, Cal made three-straight PSAC Tournament appearances from 2010-11 to 2012-13. Cal is averaging just 61.9 points per game, which ranks 17th in the conference.
Bryan Theriot surpassed the 1,000 career points mark with his 20-point performance in the Scots' loss against Seton Hill on Wednesday. He now has 1,011 total points for his career. Theriot became the 26th player in Edinboro history to accomplish the feat. Henri Wade-Chatman posted a season-high 28 points against the Griffins as well.
• Following the California (Pa.) game on Saturday, the Fighting Scots will have 10 days off before their next game on Dec. 17th as they host Bloomsburg.
