Logan v. Gannon
ERIE, Pa. (Feb. 13, 2013) – The Edinboro men's basketball team started a brutal three-game road swing with a come-from-behind 67-64 win at 17th-ranked Gannon on Wednesday night at the Hammermill Center, marking the third straight year Edinboro has won at Gannon.  While both teams have already clinched PSAC playoff berths, the victory could prove key down the stretch as the Fighting Scots fight for a first round home game.  The victory leaves Edinboro at 15-7 overall and 11-7 in the PSAC West, while the Golden Knights saw their three-game losing streak come to an end while falling to 19-5 and 13-5, respectively.

Gannon handed the Fighting Scots an 86-63 defeat in the first meeting on January 16, the most lopsided loss for Edinboro in the series since the 1982-83 season.  This time around the Fighting Scots had both Bryan Theriot and Jay Fletcher for the whole game after both went down in the second half of the first game.

The game turned out to be as good as its advance billing, as it featured seven lead changes and seven ties.  Gannon held its largest lead of the game at the half at 30-24.  Edinboro pulled to within 44-42 with 11:08 to play, then went on a 10-0 run in less than two minutes to take its largest lead of the night at 52-44 with 9:23 left..

Johnathan Logan started the run with a 3-pointer to give the Scots their first lead since early in the game.  A Gannon turnover led to a long Isaiah Prince three, and Prince followed with a steal and dunk as the Scots ran off eight points in a minute.  Gannon would call a 30-second timeout, but the  proceeded to turn the ball over for the third straight possession.  Theriot's two free throws closed out the run.

The Golden Knights came back to eventually take the lead again at 57-56 with 3:58 to play on Adam Blazek's 3-pointer, but the Scots refused to fold in front of the crowd of 1,566.  Theriot's short jumper in the paint gave Edinboro the lead for good 16 seconds later.  Prince nailed another three from the left wing to make it 61-57 with 2:16 to play.

Gannon would turn it over yet again on its next possession.  Will Marrow missed a short jumper, but followed up the miss and banked in the rebound to boost the lead to 63-57.  Darrell Blanton's two free throws closed the gap to four points, but when Logan hit his fifth 3-pointer of the night from the left baseline with 49 seconds left, Edinboro held a seemingly safe 66-59 lead.

The Golden Knights had one last gasp left.  Blanton scored on a short jumper in the paint with 40 seconds to play.  With just four fouls to that point, Gannon was forced to foul.  Two quick fouls forced the Scots to inbound the ball three times, and they turned it over on the third one.  Blanton made one of two free throws, giving Edinboro a 66-62 lead with 32 seconds to play.

Prince would rebound the missed second free throw and was fouled, but he missed the front end of the one-and-one.  Tanner Furno's dunk pulled the Knights to within 66-64 with 14 seconds left.  Gannon fouled Marrow immediately, and the redshirt freshman made his first before missing the second.

Blazek would launch a 3-pointer just before the buzzer, but he was hounded by Marrow and the shot was off the mark as the buzzer sounded.

Edinboro ended with four players in double figures, led by Theriot's 20 markers.  The 6'9” junior made 8 of 12 field goals and was 4 of 5 from the line.  He added 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.

Logan and Prince added 15 points apiece, with Logan making 5 of 11 3-pointers and Prince 3 of 6.  The senior guard was held to two points in the first half, but he exploded for 13 second-half points.

Marrow enjoyed his finest game of the season.  The redshirt freshman scored a season-high 10 points, and added six rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal in 20 minutes.

Blanton led Gannon with 21 points, adding eight rebounds, but the only other Knight to reach double figures was Oscar Macias with 16 points.  Robert Wilson pulled down 14 rebounds as the second-best rebounding team in the PSAC held a 39-32 advantage on the glass.

Edinboro shot 45.3 percent from the floor while holding Gannon to 42.4 percent.  The Golden Knights shot 52.3 percent from the floor in the first meeting, the only team to top 50 percent against Edinboro this year.  The Scots made 10 of 23 3-pointers while Gannon was 6 of 23.  Edinboro was 9 of 16 at the line, Gannon 8 of 12.

Turnovers proved a huge difference, as Edinboro outscored Gannon 21-5 on turnovers.  The Scots committed 10 turnovers, with Gannon turning it over 14 times, nine of those coming in the second half.

Edinboro will play the middle game of its three-game road trip on Saturday, February 16 at Slippery Rock.
