SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Feb. 16, 2013) – The Edinboro men's basketball team had four players score in double figures at Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon, but that wasn't enough to overcome the height and athleticism of The Rock.  The Fighting Scots suffered a 70-60 loss to fall to 15-8 overall and 11-8 in the PSAC West.  Slippery Rock boosted its record to 17-6 and 14-5, respectively.

Edinboro had upset SRU, 62-59, three weeks earlier as Isaiah Prince exploded for 28 points.  This time The Rock was able to limit the senior guard to 11 points.  Jay Fletcher led the Fighting Scots with 13 points, adding seven rebounds and seven assists.  Will Marrow II and Xavier Churnac added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Scots could not match Slippery Rock inside, particularly with Bryan Theriot suffering his worst game of the season.  The 6'9” came into the game ranked second in the PSAC in shooting percentage (59.0 pct.) and third in scoring (20.0 ppg.).  He was harassed into a 1-for-10 shooting performance and scored just seven points.  It marked the first time he has failed to score in double figures in the 18 games he's played.  The 60 points scored by Edinboro also represented a season low.

Slippery Rock outscored Edinboro, 36-12, in the paint and had an 18-5 advantage in second chance points.  The Rock, the top rebounding team in the PSAC, held a 50-37 edge in rebounds, including 20 offensive boards.
What haunted the Fighting Scots as well was 17 costly turnovers, as The Rock gained a 23-10 advantage in points off turnovers.  SRU committed 15 turnovers.

Edinboro would shoot 35.1 percent from the floor, with Slippery Rock not much better at 38.6 percent.

Devin Taylor led SRU with 15 points, nine of those coming in a decisive run to start the second half.  Luiz Santos had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Gerald Brooks finished with 11 points and 13 boards.

The game was tight for much of the first half, with Edinboro leading by five points at one point in the early going.  The Scots led 17-14 when The Rock ran off nine straight points to grab a 23-14 lead with 6:22to play.

Edinboro battled back to within 27-25 on Churnac's jumper and a free throw by Theriot.  But Slippery Rock closed on an 11-4 run to grab a 38-29 lead at the half, taking advantage of three Boro turnovers.

Slippery Rock opened the second half with another 11-4 run, with Taylor scoring the first nine points.  Darius Clark's layup gave SRU a 49-33 advantage with 16:19 left.

The Fighting Scots have displayed an ability to rally all year long, and they did so again.  A 5-0 run, with Churnac scoring four of those points, pulled the Scots to 49-38, but The Rock scored the next four points for a 53-38 advantage.

Back came the Scots, as Marrow's steal and layup and Fletcher's arching 3-pointer made it 53-43 with 12:56 remaining.  Slippery Rock answered with a 9-2 run, capped by Santos' dunk, as it took its biggest lead at 62-45 with 8:21 to play.

The Scots had one last burst remaining, scoring seven straight points on a pair of Theriot free throws, a Prince three, and two more Theriot freebies.  That closed the gap to 64-55 with 3:48 remaining.  Slippery Rock responded with the next five points to finally end Edinboro's comeback hopes.

Edinboro returns to action on Wednesday, February 20, concluding its brutal three-game road swing at 11th-ranked Indiana(Pa.).
