EDINBORO, Pa. (Feb. 23, 2013) – Bryan Theriot posted his tenth double-double of the season to lead four players in double figures on Saturday afternoon as Edinboro swept the season series with Clarion for the first time since 2008-09 with an 81-63 victory.  The victory boosted the Fighting Scots to 16-9 overall and 12-9 in PSAC West play, while the Golden Eagles are now 6-19 and 4-17, respectively.

The victory leaves Edinboro hosting Mercyhurst on Wednesday, February 27, with the winner hosting a first round PSAC Playoff game on Saturday, March 2.  In fact, those two teams will meet in that game, as well.  Mercyhurst lost in the final seconds at California(Pa.) on Saturday, 53-52, leaving both at 12-9 in league play.

Edinboro trailed on just three occasions, and only be two points at that, but it took a late surge to put away the pesky Golden Eagles.  Clinging to a 52-50 lead with 10:15 to play after Clarion scored seven straight points, the Fighting Scots would score the next nine points.

Isaiah Prince started the run with a spinning jumper in the paint.  Jay Fletcher followed with a drive and a free throw, then Will Marrow followed his own miss with a rebound basket.  Bryan Theriot capped the run with a jumper as Edinboro took a 61-50 lead with 7:37 to play.

Clarion would not pull closer than nine points, and when the Scots went on another 16-4 burst the lead grew to 21 points at 79-58 with 2:19 to play.  Johnathan Logan hit a pair of 3-pointers and Theriot added five points.

After being held under double figures for the first time this season in his last two games, Theriot led all scorers with 19 points.  The 6'9” junior made 6 of 12 field goals and was 7 of 7 from the line.  He added 11 rebounds.

Jay Fletcher added 17 points, with 14 coming in the second half.  The senior guard knocked down 4 of 9 3-pointers , adding five assists and three steals.  Xavier Churnac made 6 of 7 field goals to total 12 points, adding five rebounds.  Prince once again filled up the box score with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Clarion also had four players score in double figures, led by Corey Bellovich's 13 points.  Marques Jones made 4 of 7 3-pointers to total 12 points, and Mike Kromka and Anthony Baker finished with 11 points each.

Edinboro shot 48.4 percent from the floor (30 of 62), fueled by a hot 56 percent in the second half.  The Scots were 2 of 10 on 3-pointers in the first half, but dropped in 5 of 11 shots from beyond the arc in the second half.  Edinboro was very efficient at the line, making 14 of 17, while Clarion was 7 of 12.

After losing the battle of the boards the last four games, Edinboro held a 41-31 advantage in rebounds, with 14 on the offensive glass.  It led to a 24-12 advantage in the paint for Edinboro.  Finally, the sometimes sloppy game saw Clarion commit 18 turnovers and Edinboro 14.

Edinboro now turns to its final regular season game, looking for a regular season sweep of local rival Mercyhurst.  A year ago the Lakers won both meetings, but Edinboro won a 65-59 decision at the MAC on January 30.  It will also be Senior Night for the Scots, with Jay Fletcher, Isaiah Prince and Guy Rundle honored prior to the game.
