Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. (Feb. 9, 2013) – Thanks to an 18-0 run late in the game, Edinboro clinched a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament with an 82-72 win over Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.  The victory boosted the Fighting Scots to 14-7 overall and 10-7 in the PSAC West, while Lock Haven suffered its 11th straight defeat and is now 5-15 and 3-14, respectively.

Edinboro had failed to make the PSAC Tournament the last three years, the longest streak in head coach Greg Walcavich's 24-year tenure.  Prior to that the Fighting Scots had qualified for the PSAC playoffs nine straight years, winning back-to-back PSAC championships in 2005 and 2006.

The Fighting Scots appeared to take control of the game late in the first half and early in the second, expanding a 35-25 halftime lead to 41-25 on 3-pointers by Johnathan Logan and Isaiah Prince to start the half.

A scrappy Lock Haven team refused to fold, however, and used a 19-4 run to take a four-point lead at 62-58 with 7:34 remaining.

Edinboro answered with the next 18 points, fueled by Isaiah Prince's eight points.  Bryan Theriot started the run with a layup off a Prince assist.  Prince accounted for the next six points, hitting on a long jumper, followed by a steal and dunk, and then a jumper off a Theriot steal.  That made it 66-62 with 6:18 to play.

Lock Haven called a 30-second timeout, but it failed to slow down the Fighting Scots.  Bobby Davis hit a running jumper from the right wing, and then Jay Fletcher drained his fourth 3-pointer of the day from the top of the key.  The lead grew to double digits when Logan hit a three following a Prince steal, and Prince ended the run in an emphatic manner as he drove the left baseline for a dunk.

That gave the Fighting Scots a 76-62 lead with 2:58 remaining.  The final three minutes were filled with numerous fouls, but the Scots closed out the game making 6-of-6 free throws.
Fletcher led four Scots in double figures as the senior guard finished with 19 points.  He made 5 of 9 field goals, including 4 of 7 3-pointers, and was 5 of 6 at the line.  He added four assists.

Prince snapped out of a mini-shooting slump in the second half as he made 5 of 6 shots over the final twenty minutes to finish with 17 points.  Bryan Theriot, in his second game back after missing five contests with an injury, totaled 15 points.  Logan ended the day with 12 points.

Lock Haven's Wali Hepburn, the leading scorer in the PSAC, finished with 22 points, due in large part to an 11-for-13 chart at the free throw line.  He fell just shy of a triple-double with 10 rebounds and eight assists.  Kasheef Festus also had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out.

Edinboro shot 50.9 percent from the floor.  The Scots were at a cool 39.4 percent in the first half, but made 16 of 24 shots (66.7 pct.) in the second half.  The Bald Eagles were held to 35.2 percent.  Edinboro made 7 of 17 3-pointers and was 17 of 21 at the line, while Lock Haven was 4-for-20 on three's and 18 of 25 from the charity stripe.  Lock Haven outrebounded Edinboro, 48-32, with 23 offensive boards.  The Scots had 16 turnovers and forced 19 Lock Haven miscues.

Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, February 13 at Gannon.
