Shippensburg Blanks Edinboro Softball as Southern Trip Continues

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) SALEM, Va. (March 16, 2013) – The Edinboro softball team suffered a 14-0 five inning defeat at the hands of Shippensburg on Saturday evening at the Moyer Sports Complex.

The Fighting Scots (0-3) were limited to just one base runner as the Raiders (11-2) needed little offense behind the stellar performance of Emily Estep (4-2). Estep twirled a no-hitter in the circle, striking out five with only one walk blemishing an otherwise perfect stat line.

The Raiders seized control early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Saturday's contest was delayed 46 minutes by rain during the second inning, but the rains didn't stop Ship's momentum as it would tack on two more runs in each the second and third frames. An eight-run fifth inning sent Shippensburg to victory in five innings.

Edinboro's lone base runner came in the fourth when Marissa Pullo walked to lead off and then stole second. She stole third as well following a strikeout and it appeared as though the Boro would get on the board when Kari Falk laced a pitch into left center field. Ship's Tyler Thompson tracked it down with an excellent leaping play from center to end the threat, however.

Sunday finds the Boro back in action with a doubleheader vs. Bowie State beginning at 11 a.m.
