Fighting Scots Down Lake Erie, 4-0

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. - In yet another strong performance by the Edinboro women's soccer team, defeating the Lake Erie Storm 4-0 on Saturday, September 14. The victory boosts the Fighting Scots record to 3-1-0, while the Storm drops to 1-3-0.

Edinboro put continuous pressure on Lake Erie all night. The Scots outshot the Storm 18-1 in the first half. Becca Costello scored her second goal of the season at the 37:41 mark, when she attempted a free kick from 20 yards out that was deflected by a Storm defender and bounced into the net. Goalkeeper Sarah Stroope couldn't recover and adjust to the deflected ball, and the Scots took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Within a five-minute stretch in the second half, Edinboro began to find the back of the net. Between the 58:49 mark and the 63:07 mark, the Fighting Scots scored three times, two of them from freshman Alex Brown. Brown now leads the team with three goals on the season. Laurelee Clements netted the other goal on a free kick that was from roughly 30 yards out. Jansen Hartmann was credited with her third assist of the season – also a team-high – on Brown's first goal of the game.

Meghan Kelly was once again in net for the Fighting Scots, and she recorded her third consecutive victory and shutout. They were Kelly's 13th career shutout and 23rd career victory, both of which rank third in school history. She is only two victories away from tying the school record in wins.

The Fighting Scots return to action on Wednesday, September 18 to host Slippery Rock. It is the final game of a four-game home stand and The Rock comes in with a 1-1-1 record.
