EDINBORO, Pa. – Slippery Rock scored two goals in the span of 61 seconds in the first half to hand Edinboro a 2-1 defeat in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening. The contest was a rematch of last year's NCAA playoff game which Slippery Rock won on penalty kicks. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Fighting Scots, who fall to 3-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the PSAC. SRU is now 2-1-1 in both. The Rock came in ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region, while Edinboro was seventh.
Slippery Rock had a golden opportunity to score in the first 14 minutes of the match when Allison Harbart was awarded a penalty kick after she was taken down in the box. Her shot was just wide to the right.
SRU's Andrea Felix scored the match's first goal on a breakaway. The freshman took a feed from Dara Dermich on the right side and drilled it into the left side of the net at 16 minutes, 11 seconds into the match.
Sixty-one seconds later Slippery Rock boosted its lead to 2-0 on a corner kick. Harbart's corner was headed into the net by Lauren Impey at the 17:12 mark.
Liz Debo pulled the Fighting Scots to within 2-1 with her second goal of the season at 53:34. The Scots received a free kick after Debo was pulled down by SRU goalkeeper Dana O'Neill just outside the penalty box.
Lauralee Clements' kick was headed in by Debo.
Slippery Rock ended with a narrow 12-10 advantage in shots. Kelly had three saves while O'Neill finished with three saves, as well.
Edinboro's tough week continues on Saturday, September 21 as the Fighting Scots play at California(Pa.). That match gets underway at 6 p.m..
