Boro Travels to California (Pa.) For Regionally Ranked Matchup

Following a loss earlier in the week, the Edinboro women's soccer team will look to right the ship when they head to play California (Pa.) on Saturday, September 21. The Vulcans come into the match at 2-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC, while the Fighting Scots are 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC.

Edinboro saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a 2-1 loss to Slippery Rock. The Rock took an early two goal lead when Andrea Felix and Lauren Impey scored within a minute and eight seconds of each other. The Fighting Scots displayed resilience in the second half as they consistently applied pressure and were awarded with a goal by junior forward Liz Debo at the 53:35 mark. The Rock's strong first half proved to be enough for the victory.

The Vulcans are on a two-game winning streak with wins over Indiana (Pa.) and Clarion by a combined 6-1. California (Pa.) also lost to Slippery Rock, a 2-1 defeat to open the season. They are led by junior midfielder Haley Henderson, who has three goals on the season, tied for second in the conference.

The Fighting Scots currently have three players with multiple girls. Debo and junior midfielder Becca Costello each have two goals this season, while freshman forward Alex Brown has three. Sophomore forward Jansen Hartmann has also contributed three assists. Junior goalkeeper Meghan Kelly has three shutouts on the season and currently ranks fifth in the conference with her .80 goals against average for goalies with at least 400 minutes played.

Coming into the week, each of these teams were ranked in the Atlantic Region. Edinboro was seventh and California (Pa.) was sixth. The Fighting Scots lead the series between the two with a 12-11-1 record, but have lost the last five in a row, with their last win against the Vulcans coming in 2009.
