Edinboro Rides Strong First Half to Victory Over Bloomsburg

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. - Withstanding a second half rally, the Edinboro women's soccer team hung on to beat the Bloomsburg Huskies 4-2 on Tuesday night. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Fighting Scots and improved them to 4-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the PSAC. The Huskies fall to 3-5-0 overall, 2-5-0 in conference, and are now in the midst of a three-game losing streak.

The Fighting Scots struck early when Liz Debo tapped a pass from Becca Costello right past the goalie only 6:29 into the game. Less than nine minutes later, Costello notched another assist as her corner kick was headed in by Ashley DeVito for her second goal of the season. Edinboro remained determined on putting another goal on the board and were able to do so with just seconds remaining in the first half. Allie Thompson crossed the ball and Ivone Aguilar tapped it to Brittany Shipley, who finished it by striking it across the ground and into the net. It was Shipley's first career goal.

Facing a 3-0 deficit coming out of halftime, Bloomsburg picked up their play in the second half. At the 59:54 mark, Jenna Fisher scored her fourth of the season on a pass from Kyleigh Reckage. Then, 71:17 into the game, senior forward Tara Huber connected with her third goal of the season, assisted by Jamie Vaniver.

With the score now 3-2 and the Huskies within reach of tying it, the Fighting Scots were able to seal the victory with less than 15 minutes to go in the game. Laurelee Clements hit a free kick towards the net that a diving Debo was able to head into the net. The two goals pushed Debo's total to four on the season which takes the team lead.

This was Meghan Kelly's fourth victory on the season, as she has started every game for the Fighting Scots this year and is now 4-3-0. Victoria Albert received her first career start as her record falls to 0-1-0.

Costello now has two assists on the season, pushing her point total to six. Clements assist was her second of the year, while Thompson's and Aguilar's were their first.

Edinboro plays Lock Haven on Saturday, September 28. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Lock Haven.
