HEAD COACHES
EDINBORO
Scott Browning (Ohio State '81)
Record at Edinboro: 49-29, eighth year
Career Record: 49-29, eighth year
Scott Browning (Ohio State '81) took over as Edinboro's 13th head coach on January 5, 2006, and in his first six seasons he tied the record for most wins by a coach during that period. Browning is now entering his eighth season with a 49-29 record. He seeks to become the third coach at Edinboro to reach 50 wins. Browning was certainly no stranger to Fighting Scot football when he was hired as head coach, serving as an assistant coach for the previous twenty years. While at Edinboro he has coached the offensive linemen, defensive backs and running backs, along with serving as the offensive coordinator. Browning became the first head coach at Edinboro to debut with a win since Bill McDonald in 1969 when the Fighting Scots opened the 2006 season with a 28-14 win at West Chester. He went on to lead Edinboro to a 6-5 finish, the most wins ever by a first-year coach. That was followed by a 7-4 finish in 2007. His next two Fighting Scot editions recorded a school-record tying nine wins. in 2008 Edinboro ended the year at 9-2 and was ranked 20th in the final AFCA?Top 25. The Fighting Scots had a 9-4 record in 2009, making the NCAA?playoffs for the first time in his tenure. Edinboro would end the year 24th in the AFCA?poll. The Boro posted back-to-back 7-4 finishes in 2010 and 2011. Last year's 4-6 finish represented Browning's first losing season as head coach.
WALSH
Ted Karras, Jr. (North Alabama '90)
Record at Walsh: 0-0, first year
Career Record: 62-39, 11th year
Ted Karras Jr. (North Alabama '90) was named Walsh's second head coach in December after an impressive stint at Marion University. Karras led the Knights to the 2012 NAIA?National Championship thanks to a 30-27 overtime win over Morningside in the title game. He led Marion to its second straight Mid-States Football Association Mideast League championship and finished the year with a 12-1 record. Karras earned AFCA NAIA Region ll Coach of the Year honors for the second straight season. In 2011, Karras directed Marian to its first MSFA Mideast League championship after its first perfect 10-0 regular season and was named MSFA Mideast Coach of the Year. The Knights finished the season at 12-1 and closed the year as the third-ranked team in the NAIA. All told, he posted a 48-23 record in seven seasons at Marian. He also spent three seasons as the head coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he went 14-16. All told,, he owns a 62-39 record as a head coach. A four-year starter at Northwestern University, he played one season with the Washington Redskins after signing as a free agent. Karras' bloodline is football-rich -- his father, Ted Sr., played for the George Halas-led Chicago Bears from 1960-64. His uncle, the late Alex Karras, played 13 seasons with the Detroit Lions (1958-71).

THE GAME STORY
Edinboro opens the 2013 campaign at first-time opponent Walsh. The Cavaliers, a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, finished 2012 with a 3-8 record. They will be playing their first game under head coach Ted Karras, Jr., who previously served as the head coach at Marian and led the Knights to the 2012 NAIA?National Championship.
The Fighting Scots finished 2012 with a 4-6 record, marking the program's first losing season since 2002. It also was the first losing campaign for head coach
Scott Browning, who has served as Edinboro's head coach since 2006.?
Edinboro returns eight starters on offense, including first team All-PSAC?West selection
Marcus Johnson at wide receiver and
Cody Harris, a second team selection the last two years at quarterback. Defensively, the Fighting Scots have seven starters back, led by
James Jackson, a prseason All-American pick who was a first team All-PSAC?West choice in 2011.
Edinboro averaged 26.9 ppg. in 2012, while averaging 371.6 yards in total offense. The Fighting Scots were just 14th in the PSAC in rushing with 89.3 ypg., but threw for 282.3 ypg. Defensively, the Scots allowed 26.9 ppg. and 403.6 ypg., ranking ninth in the PSAC in the latter category. Edinboro gave up 175.0 ypg. rushing and 228.6 ypg. through the air.
Three of Edinboro's five losses in 2012 came to nationally-ranked teams. The Scots lost to then-19th ranked Bloomsburg, 30-14, the opening week of the season, followed by a 24-14 loss to sixth-ranked California(Pa.) the following week. Later in the season 22nd-ranked IUP handed the Boro a 26-10 defeat. The combined record of the six teams Edinboro lost to was 52-18.
Edinboro begins its eighth season under head coach
Scott Browning. The former long-time Boro assistant has led the Fighting Scots to a 49-29 record during that period, and tied mentor Tom Hollman for the most wins by a coach in his first six seasons. A year ago Edinboro finished with a 4-6 record, marking his first losing campaign. He needs one win to become the third coach at Edinboro to reach 50 wins.
The Fighting Scots were picked to finish sixth in the PSAC?West preseason poll. The Western Division will have a new look in 2012 with Seton Hill joining the PSAC. The addition of the Greensburg, PA-based Griffins shifted Lock Haven over to the Eastern Division.
This marks the first meeting between Edinboro and Walsh. The contest will be played at Fawcett Stadium, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the NFL's Hall of Fame Game.
The Fighting Scots will be making their first journey to Ohio since 2003 when they opened the season with back-to-back games at Youngstown State and Ashland.
Browning Comments ... on the Fighting Scots
"We've had an excellent camp. We've stayed relatively healthy, although like everybody else we've had our bumps and bruises. There's an uncertaintly heading into this first game because we haven't played anybody else. This is a tremendous opportunity for us to see where we are at."
Browning Comments ... on the Cavaliers
"We've never played Walsh before and they have a new coaching staff. The staff did a tremendous job at Marian. We expect to see a well-coached team, a team that is going to play hard. This will be the coach's first game, so we expect to see Walsh play with extra enthusiasm."
