MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Sept 5, 2013) – Edinboro women's soccer dropped its opening match of the season in a 2-1 loss to Millersville. This was both teams opening contest of the season, putting the Marauders at 1-0-0 and the Fighting Scots at 0-1-0.
Both teams were ready to go right out of the gate. Millersville scored less than three minutes into the contest, as Megan Kelley was assisted by Kelsey Mattola for the first Marauders goal of the season. Soon after, freshman
Alex Brown buried one for the Fighting Scots at the 5:51 mark to even things up at 1-1.
The game was still knotted up at halftime, but that didn't last for long. Millersville struck quickly, as Kristin Lepley scored off an assist from Savannah Hall barely over a minute into the second half.
Millersville was coming off a season in which they finished 5-8-5 including 2-8-4 in the PSAC. Edinboro, on the other hand, is coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and had previously won the last seven matches in a row against the Marauders.
This was the first time Edinboro didn't come out victorious in a season opener since 2009, when they tied 2-2 against Urbana.
The Fighting Scots will have their home opener on Saturday, September 7
th, 2013 against the Shippensburg Raiders. The game begins at 1:00 p.m. as Edinboro looks to overcome today's loss.
