THE GAME STORIES
• Edinboro remains in search of its first conference victory of the 2013-14 campaign following a 69-66 defeat against #15 Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday night. That left the Fighting Scots at 0-7 in the PSAC West and 7-10 overall. Edinboro is looking to avoid its first 0-8 start in PSAC play since the 1955-56 season. The 1959-60 Fighting Scots also lost their first seven contests in the conference before defeating Clarion 80-66. The Golden Eagles come into the game with a 3-12 overall mark and a 1-6 ledger in PSAC West action. Their lone conference victory came against Seton Hill last Saturday.

•The Fighting Scots suffered another close loss to IUP, the fourth straight game between the teams that Edinboro has taken the Crimson Hawks down to the wire. IUP defeated Edinboro in all three meetings last season, needing overtime in two games to claim victories. The other game also came down to the final minutes.

•Edinboro enters the game against Clarion following a very difficult four-game stretch. Starting with Slippery Rock, the Scots faced the four best scoring defenses in the PSAC in a row, three of which rank in the top six in Division II. Mercyhurst came into last Wednesday's matchup as the sixth-ranked scoring defense in the country at 61.3 ppg. Gannon entered the game against Edinboro as the fourth-best scoring defense in Division II at 60.6 ppg, while IUP entered the last game as the top-ranked scoring defense in the country and the PSAC at 57.4 ppg. Slippery Rock, who the Scots faced on January 11, ranks fourth in the conference, limiting opponents to an average of 64.8 points per game at the time. IUP also ranked fifth in Division II, but second in the PSAC, in opponent field goal percentage at 37.9 percent, while Slippery Rock paces the conference and ranks third in the country at 36.6 percent.

• Clarion ranks 16th in the conference in both scoring defense and field goal percent defense, as opponents are scoring 75.3 points per game  and shooting 44.3 percent against the Eagles.
• Edinboro is currently on a four-game losing streak, its longest of the season. The last time the Fighting Scots lost four straight games was during the 2011-12 campaign. Edinboro has not lost five games in a row since 2010-11.

• The Fighting Scots were picked to finish eighth in the Western Division while the Golden Eagles were picked to finish ninth the PSAC West in the conference preseason poll. At this point in the season, the two predictions are flip-flopped, as Edinboro sits in ninth place in the division, while Clarion  is currently in eighth place in the division with a 1-6 record in conference play.
