(January 4, 2014) – The Edinboro men's basketball team opened its 2014 portion of the schedule with a 91-63 loss at the hands of a hot-shooting Millersville team on Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Gymnasium in Millersville, Pa. The Marauders tied a school record with 17 made three-point shots in the PSAC Crossover contest. The Fighting Scots dropped their third straight game to move to 5-6 on the season, while Millersville improved to 5-6.
Edinboro opened the game making just 1 of 11 field goal attempts before
Jonny Marsh made a three-pointer to cut the Marauder lead to 8-5 with 12:58 to play in the first half.
Millersville closed out the opening period by outscoring the Fighting Scots 36-15, as the Marauders held a 44-20 lead at the half.
Edinboro shot 26.5 percent from the field in the first half and made only one shot from behind the arc, while Millersville connected on nine three-pointers and made 45.5 percent of shots from the field.
The Marauders extended their lead to as many as 42 with 9:31 to play in the contest. The Fighting Scots improved their shooting in the second half, hitting at 48.5 percent from the field, but could not overcome a slow start and Millersville's success from behind the arc.
The Marauders made 17 of 33 (51.5 percent) three-point shots in the game en route to its third straight win.
Bryan Theriot scored a team-high 21 points for the Scots, connecting on 9 of 12 shots from the field. The senior eclipsed the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season. He also chipped in a game-high nine rebounds in the contest.
Marsh added 15 points for the afternoon.
Tavon Parker posted a career-high 23 points off the bench for the Marauders, on 7 of 10 shooting from long range. Jalen Lester recorded 12 markers, while Kyle Richardson had 10 points for Millersville.
The Fighting Scots outscored the Marauders 34-16 in the paint, but the Millersville's bench bested Edinboro's reserves by a 49-13 scoring margin.
The Marauders garnered 26 points from the Fighting Scots' 20 turnovers. Edinboro's 20 turnovers are its most since the Scots surrendered 23 in a 66-48 win over Thiel on November 11th in the first game of the season.
The Fighting Scots are now 0-9 all-time in Millersville's Pucillo Gymnasium.
Edinboro looks to snap its three-game losing streak when the Fighting Scots travel to Cheyney tomorrow. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. against the Wolves. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, January 3rd, but was rescheduled because of inclement weather conditions.
