Box Score (New/Sortable Format) CHEYNEY, Pa. (January 5, 2014) – The Fighting Scots snapped a three-game skid with a 69-65 victory at Cheyney on Sunday afternoon at Cope Hall in Cheyney, Pa. Edinboro held a 61-45 advantage with 6:55 to play, when the Wolves constructed a 14-0 to cut the Fighting Scot lead to two with 2:35 remaining. Edinboro made all six of its free throw attempts down the stretch to seal the win. The Fighting Scots improved to 6-6 on the season, while Cheyney dropped to 2-11.
Holding a slim 61-59 advantage with 2:35 remaining in the contest,
Bryan Theriot scored six points in a row for the Fighting Scots to give Edinboro a 67-63 lead.
After Jerrod Johnson nailed a pair of free throws to bring Cheyney within two,
Jonny Marsh connected on two free throws of his own with just seven seconds left to clinch the Scots' sixth victory of the season.
Theriot poured in 25 points on the afternoon, one shy of his season-high of 26 markers in a loss at Pitt-Johnstown on November 23rd. He also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the game.
Marsh connected on four of five three-pointers and finished with 16 points in the contest.
Edinboro jumped out to a 14 point lead at 21-7 with 9:46 remaining in the first half on a dunk by
Sam Sealy-James.
Cheyney responded with a 20-3 run to take a 27-24 lead at the 1:55 mark of the half when Johnson knocked in a three-pointer.
The Fighting Scots finished the half with a 10-0 run of their own to hold a 34-27 lead at the break, capped off by a
Johnathan Logan three-pointer at the buzzer.
Edinboro led by as many as 16 in the second half, when Theriot knocked down two free throws to give the Scots a 61-45 advantage with 6:55 to play.
DeShawn Curtis paced Cheyney with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson and Calvin Brown added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Fighting Scots shot a season-low 35.3 percent from the field (18-51), but held the Wolves to shoot 37.9 percent (22-25) on the afternoon. Edinboro edged Cheyney in the rebound column by a slim 39-38 margin.
The Fighting Scots made a season-high 28 free throws as a team on 38 attempts.
Edinboro plays its final PSAC Crossover contest of the season on Wednesday, January 8 when the Fighting Scots host Shippensburg. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse against the Raiders.
