EDINBORO, Pa. (October 23, 2014) - The Edinboro women's soccer team heads to California (Pa.) on Saturday, October 23. The PSAC match-up is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. in an important game for both teams as the Fighting Scots and Vulcans fight for position in the conference. Edinboro enters the match 8-5-1 overall and 8-4-1 in the PSAC while California (Pa.) is 11-2-2 overall and 10-2-1 in conference. The Scots are ranked sixth the most recent NSCAA Atlantic Regional rankings while the Vulcans are fourth in the region and receiving votes in the national poll.
The Fighting Scots lost their last outing against Slippery Rock in the waning minutes. The Rock scored in the 88
th minute to defeat the Scots 1-0.
Edinboro still remains ranked sixth in the PSAC. The Fighting Scots can clinch a PSAC Tournament berth for the fourth straight year if they win or tie California (Pa.) on Saturday and Millersville losses to Lock Haven on Saturday.
Edinboro is led in scoring by
Jansen Hartmann. The junior midfielder/forward is second on the team with five goals and first with five assists for 15 points. Hartmann has registered at least one point in seven of the Scots' eight victories. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native now ranks tied for 14
th for career goals (13), tied for ninth with
Becca Costello in career assists (14), and 14
th in career points (40).
Liz Debo is the school's all-time leader in goals scored (39) after scoring two in a 6-3 victory against Mansfield. The senior forward is now just six points away from tying Nicole Vlahovic for the most in school history (90).
Erin Hogan is the PSAC career leader in assists as her current count stands at 53. The senior midfielder/forward is the only player in conference history to reach 50 assists in conference history. Hogan has tallied four assists in four career games against the Fighting Scots.
Chelsea Crockett leads the PSAC with 11 goals and 28 points. She has been named to the Daktronics First Team All-Region the past two years and was a Daktronics Third-Team All-American last year. The Vulcans have won six straight games and Crockett has scored a goal in each of those games.
Edinboro has had difficulties with California (Pa.) as of late. The Vulcans have won the last six straight to tie the series record at 12-12-1. Last year the Vulcans won 3-0. All three goals came in the second half with Danielle Kearns and Kelsey Russo each scoring within the first five minutes of the half on passes from Hogan. Russo scored the final goal in the 63
rd minute.
The Fighting Scots close out its PSAC season on October 28 at No. 23 Kutztown. Edinboro will be looking to avenge a 2-1 loss last year to the Golden Bears when they face off on Tuesday afternoon.
